A/S- drink juice and eat right?

Anything else
To do to prepare? Does the bladder have to be full? Mine is coming up soon!

  • Don't do anything special, just eat and drink as you normally would.

Too much sugar or caffeine makes for a squirmy baby, and squirmy babies are harder to get measurements on.

Baby is big enough now that you don't need a full bladder (for both DS and this baby, I gave my urine sample immediately before the ultrasound).

  • My tech said she would be pissed if I had orange juice before the scan.

  • Lol ok thanks all!! I wont do anything special then. Good I asked!
  • I drank a glass of OJ before my a/s with my son.  The tech was very irritated and it made it difficult for her to do her measurements.

  • I was specifically told I don't need a full bladder for my A/S. I'm going to avoid sugar as at my NT scan, the baby was jumping all over the place an I'd had some vitamin water before the appointment.

My tech actually had me fully empty my bladder. I was surprised because I came prepared with a full bladder.
  • They told me I need to drink 32 oz of water... I did this with my 12w US and I could barely walk I was so full of pee.  I am definitely not doing that this time maybe I'll try for 20 but that's it

  • Yes, call your us place. Mine wants me to drink 16oz water completely 1 hour before the us.
  • The full bladder is to measure other organs inside your body I believe. They always make you empty your bladder to see the baby after they measure other stuff.

I would eat something about 30 min before, but not sugary stuff. They can usually see the baby's sex, but if they baby is moving around like crazy they can't get good measurments.

    Name my baby!
  • Ha, I just had my ultrasound on Friday - I was told to drink 16oz 1 hour before, I had 8oz OJ bc I'm addicted and that's my morning routine and 8oz water and tech was able to get all measurements
  • I had my A/S last Friday and was told to drink 32 oz of water an hour before. Have my urine sample after.
  • I had mine yesterday morning. All I had was water and he was ALL over the place! She had a hard time measuring some stuff. She asked me what I ate and was shocked when I told her I hadn't had breakfast yet. I could only imagine what he would look like if I ate before I went!

The tech who did mine wanted a full bladder. I felt like I was going to pee on her every time she would push down with the wand on my belly! Call and ask what your office prefers.
  • Will do!! Thanks ladies. You guys are helpful! Guess its one plus being due end of november hehe i alwaya just feel behind

I am going in a little early, before my a/s to try and see the gender. So worried baby will be all rolled up tight in there! Anything I can try and do to prevent that from happening? Thinking about drinking a little orange juice on way to appointment ... but don't want baby too squirmy. There's prob just no way of knowing!

  • Yeah they told me gender at 16 weeks when i wasnt expecting and didnt do anything special
Before as it was just regualr ultrasound
  • I would def call.  I had mine yesterday and called mine because I assumed I would but no one said anything when I made the app.  Whoever answered the phone though I guess didn't ask the tech and they said no. It's a good thing I did drink some water at work before I left and I have an almost a 1 1/2 hr ride home during off peak hrs so by the time I got there I really had to go.  Good thing I asked her when I got in the room if I could go really quick and she said no cuz she wanted a full bladder.  I told her what the front desk had said and she was a little annoyed and was glad I told her.

  • I was told full bladder of clear fluids. This is to check the cervix and my other organs. Then for the a/s of baby I was allowed to empty my bladder.
