Your thoughts on first visit?

Hi Ladies! I recently joined this board and had my first appointment and wanted to get your thoughts. Today I thought I was 6 weeks 3 days and I measured 5 weeks 5 days (which threw me off a little because I usually have a perfect 27 day cycle). I was happy to see on the sonogram that they detected the heartbeat, and I even saw the flutter! But they said there was no way to measure it yet because it probably just started beating this morning. I am going away on vacation starting Friday for two weeks and am very nervous. I had one miscarriage and then went on to have a healthy pregnancy and baby. I just really wish that I would have measured on time and also had a faster heart rate. The doctor said that he wasn't worried. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I measured 9 days behind at my initial appointment with DS1.  I was so worried because I had been charting and knew my ovulation date.  Even accounting for late implantation, the days could not be right, IMO.  Long story short, he caught up to my dates and by 20 weeks was measuring ahead.  I would try not to worry.  Easier said than done though!

Yeah, chances are you didn't have a 27 day cycle this time. And like pp said, they can catch up later anyway. I wouldn't give it another thought for now. Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you for your responses, ladies. I wasn't charting so don't know exactly when I ovulated. It is helpful just to get perspectives.

This happened to me last pregnancy (which was successful) and happened yesterday too. By LMP should have been exactly 8 weeks but am measuring 6 weeks, 4 days. There was a heartbeat, though they said it was a little low (111). Not worried though as that also happened with DS. Your chances of miscarrying are already so much lower now that they've seen a heartbeat:) good luck!

I've heard when they are that small, they are harder to measure so your doctor's measurement could be slightly off and things should start to even out at your next ultrasound.  good luck. Enjoy your vacation!

Oh, I also heard (from doc and rn) that as long as it measures within a week of where you are in your cycle, it's good.

Same here! I was measuring nine days behind my LMP even though my cycles have been consistent my entire life. My HCG was putting me at 6 weeks about three weeks ago or so. So, we're just thinking the baby is measuring small because I'm actually quite small. Since I wasn't trying to get pregnant (I was actually on birth control), I didn't change my habits until the pregnancy test was taken. I'm hoping I'm further along than seven weeks because I just want to be very much out of the first trimester. After I heard the heart beat though, I calmed down. My OB said that the heart beat being there was a very good sign.
