NWMR - anyone experience LO with hoarse voice?

Hi Ladies,

I posted something similar to this about a week and a half ago on toddlers 24 months and I only got one response and am still not sure what to do about this.

DD is 2 and has had a hoarse voice for a little over 2 weeks now.  She has no other symptoms at all.  She seems perfectly happy and healthy and has tons of energy and is eating well and generally acting her normal self so I don't think she's sick.  Still, I don't like that this has gone on so long.  

This happened before back in April maybe and it eventually went away but now it is back again.  I just wish I knew what was causing it.  It doesn't seem to bother her but it breaks my heart listening to her like this.  Especially when she sings you can really hear it.

I have heard that it could be silent reflux but she's never had reflux before so I think it would be strange that she would all of sudden have reflux at age 2.  Is it possible for her to have had silent reflux all along and we never knew about it?

I keep going back and forth about taking her to the pedi.  My mom says maybe I should take her to ENT.

Does she seem to be rough on her voice (e.g. making loud car sounds, character voices, screaming, squealing, etc?).  Its fairly rare, but kids can get vocal nodules.  Or there could be other sources of irritation (post nasal drip, reflux)  I am a pediatric speech therapist. If you have the concern in your gut, see if you can get a referral to an ENT.  If nothing else having her evaluated will rule out possible problems and give you peace of mind.  Some ENTs focus more on ears/hearing and others focus more on the throat.  I would try to find someone with a focus in that area.  Good Luck!

Great advice! I would also get a referral and take her to see an ENT. My cousin's toddler had vocal nodules and the top symptom was a raspy voice. She's had surgery and has recovered great!
