Crib Mattresses

I was registered for a nice organic crib mattress but it's over $200 and since someone else isn't buying it, I can't afford to shell out that $. Please rec your crib mattresses.  Looking for something more "natural".  Also, do I need a crib mattress cover/pad if the mattress is waterproof? It's been a long time since I had to worry about any of this and I can't remember.  TIA

@lbs2012 Did you get the super lightweight one? That's a bit cheaper than the one for 2 stages.

I think we have the Sealy Natural Rest.  Nothing fancy.

I don't think a mattress cover is necessary if the mattress is waterproof, but I saw a recommendation once to layer a few waterproof pads and sheets.  So if the sheets get dirty in the middle of the night, you can just pull off the top sheet and mattress pad and there is a clean sheet underneath.  DS still sleeps with us most of the night, so I haven't really needed it.  But it is nice to be able to just pull off the top layer to wash without having to actually change sheets.

We bought the lightweight lullaby earth mattress. It's made by naturpedic, but it's just not certified organic like their more expensive ones. Granted LO hasn't slept on it yet, I'm happy with our choice. If you have a BBB, they carry them in store and you can use a 20% coupon.

Haven't bought the crib yet, but yes it will convert to a toddler bed.

I will probably buy the lullaby one then. I do have BBB by me, but I have an Amazon store charge card so I need to buy it from Amazon.

We got the Lullaby Earth super light one.  It's still like $170, so not sure if that helps, although you could probably use a 20% off coupon at BuyBuyBaby or Babies R Us.  It really is SUPER light, so very easy to change sheets, etc.

Also, we still use a (waterproof) mattress pad.  I don't want to have to deal with wiping down the mattress in the middle of the night.....it's much easier to just swap & wash the pad.

I like the cover because I don't like how it feels with just the sheet on the mattress.

I went with the Colgate Eco Foam Supreme https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HI2080/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is a lot less expensive than the Lullaby Baby one, but it only has Green Guard certification, not the GG Select (i.e. it's not quite as fancy and certified safe). It also doesn't have a wipeable surface (not sure what the LB has) so I bought some organic cotton waterproof mattress pads for about $25 each.

Also, in regards to layering sheets and matress pads, I personally never have. It's easier for me to whip off a dirty sheet and pad and throw new ones on than to try to shove four different coverings onto the very tight-fitting mattress. Thankfully, we've really only had 2 or 3 instances when we needed to change the sheets at night in 2 years.
