Slow flow nipple suggestions

We do both breast and bottle, but he seems to choke frequently on the Medela slow flow nipple. Looking for suggestions on what brand nipple to try next. I used the Playtex bottles and nipples for my dd (with the awesome drop ins) and thinking we night give that a try.

I'm using the Playtex ventaire standard slow flow with dd and it's working well. We also have tommee tippee but we seem to do better with standard size.

  • We're using the Avent Natural newborn bottle and nipple and LO has no issues with the transition from bottle to breast. If anything her latch actually improved!
I found that when I keep the nipple only half full instead of at the full tilt she tends to take more time to eat as well. Good luck!

  • We have been using the Avent Natural and Tommie Tippee Closer to Nature bottles since day 3 and have had no issues going back and forth from bottle to breast. Make sure LO is sitting more upright and hold the bottle horizontal so s/he has more control over flow.

  • We've used born free bottles with all 3 LOs (EBF'd) and no problems with nipple confusion or gas. The slow flow nipples are great.

This^^ they are awesome and we noticed latch improved too! These are the best bottles for sure.
  • I use the nipples that came with Similac 2 oz formula bottles it's better then Medela! I switch bw breast/bottle throughout the day. Keep baby upright. So far no latch issues.

Any suggestions on keeping the air out when bottle feeding?
Also my baby won't burp lol. I tilt him and hold and tap his back but nothing :/ and he spits up after bottle feeds. He is 3 wks ...thx!!
  • We use Avent bottles. As for burping, I put him on my knee sitting straight up. Put my hand on his chest up under his chins supporting his neck from slumping forward, then pat up and down his back steadily yet forcefully. I don't beat the kid, but it's a solid thud. DH tries putting him on his shoulder and lightly tapping and he gets nothing.
  • Does anyone have any experience with the Medela calma nipple? I'd like to try one but it's expensive. Also want to make sure it will fit on my Medela bottles that I already have.
  • The lactation consultant I just met with reccomended dr browns narrow mouth slow flow nipples.

We did the Playtex ventaires for DS. You can also try pacing LO as he eats; tip the nipple to the side every few sucks to give him a chance to recover without breaking the latch.

I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.
