Trouble TTC

Sad. & IVF questions.

I temped the past 2 days... And this morning my temp dropped to where my average cover line is (a drop I've been having around 11-12dpo the past few months). I know 2 temps mean nothing... But I've given up. Our chances were slim anyway. I was planning to test Friday (DH's bday) but now I won't be. Instead I'll be going out today and buying tampons and ice cream. FUIF. And please don't tell me it's still early, even though you may be right, I don't wanna hear it. And yes I'm extra b!tchy today.

K thanks for the vent.

So I have a couple IVF questions.

1. Can you ttc the month before your ivf cycle? My RE doesn't do bcps. But I didn't know if you're usually on something else that you need to prevent.

2. Do ivf cycles typically run longer than an average cycle.. Like stimming for ivf vs IUI?

3. Both of those are being asked because we are trying to figure out when to do ivf. We may end up doing it right before a 3 day road trip. Would you feel comfortable doing ivf right before a trip with the chance of just finding out it worked? We will be doing a lot of walking.. And I just don't wanna screw things up. I know that's probably a stupid question, but I am curious.

Thanks ladies!

So sorry about the temp drop.

    1. I was put on bcp, and you may similarly be on some sort of ovarian suppression type drug, especially if you're coming off an IUI cycle. That'll make TTC the month before stims pretty much impossible.

    2. My entire IVF cycle, from starting bcp's to embryo transfer, was 39 days. I stimmed for 12 days and had a 5 day transfer. I had MUCH longer IUI cycles because they had me stim low and slow for IUI and with IVF we could go all out since the goal was a lot of eggs.

    3. I ended up going to a 4 day concert/festival 2 days after my first beta. I had(have) OHSS and got cleared by my doc to go to the concert as long as I took it easy. I did have to do a lot of walking, but he was ok with it. You're at elevated risk for blood clots following the stims, so on a road trip you'll want to stop frequently and move your legs. Personally, it worked out well for me. But I was LUCKY the timing worked out perfectly. If I had stimmed one more day, I would have been screwed. Good luck!

  • I'm sorry :(

    1. If your RE isn't going to do a BCP or Lupron protocol, I don't see why not
    2. My cycles have been longer, since I've stimmed 12-14 days (you start stimming around CD4)
    3. I'd find out what you're RE's take on bed rest is for after the transfer.  Many RE just say to take around 2 days of rest.  I was surprised to hear my RE asks for 4 days, and I've heard of that from a few others.  So unless you are open to the idea of doing a freeze-all, I wouldn't plan anything for a week or so after you would think ER would be.

I was on bcp for a month before our IVF. I had a pretty good idea on the number of days I'd be stimming because I'd done 3 months of injections before already. I actually stimmed 11 days and triggered on the 12th. There was no traveling during stims because I had 8 monitoring appts, my dr watches me closely. I did go out of town 2 nights after the first day of stims but never left again except for appts.

As far as traveling afterwards. I left town 2 days after ER. We just went to savannah and stayed in a family home. I thought a change of scenery would be better waiting on results. I had 19 eggs retrieved and my E2 before my trigger was almost 3,000. We had planned on a freeze all but they were still preparing my body for ET just incase I only had a couple of eggs because I wasn't going to do PGD. So I was on Medrol and PIO. We had a 10 hr drive to make and it wasn't easy. I laid down in the back seat misreable, I was in pain from the PIO and cramping pretty bad. Then the bloating came 3 days after ER. OMG I looked 6 months pregnant. I couldn't bend over it hurt, i was so big none of my clothes even fit and they were sun dresses. I didn't even bother
trying to put on shorts. We actually never left the house in savannah until 5 days after ER and that was just to have dinner no walking we got a pedicab, I got nauseated during dinner and we left. The next day we tried walking to brunch and on the way back I was hurting. So I decided netflix was
just my friend for the rest of the day. We came home the next day and I did most of the driving I felt so much better and 2 days later I was back to my original self.

I don't regret leaving town because it was nice for a change of scenery because it was so stressful but I could have not stayed in a hotel somewhere and did a lot of walking. I also think it all depends on how many are retrieved and if you are doing a fresh transfer. We planned on coming back early if we were going to have to do a fresh transfer and looking back I have no clue how I would have made that long drive because of the bloating.

Good luck! I'm sorry it was a novel.

ETA: I'm sorry you are even having to think about IVF now . ((Hugs))
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • I don't know about IVF protocol yet, but I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry.

    I'm really sorry.

I did do BCP for a cycle before, so I'm not sure what your dr will use to suppress or anything. Once you start stims you can't have sex because the risk of multiples increase.

Here was my timeline on BCP to give you an idea, and I'm just waiting for my next steps, but...

Tues, May 20: Started BCP for a cycle

Tuesday, June 10: End BCP... waiting for AF (meds arrived)

Sat, June 14: AF arrives, called clinic to let them know CD1

Sunday, June 15: Ultrasound... Day 1 of Stims

Wed, June 18: Bloodwork, Fri 6/20 & Sun 22: Bloodwork and Ultrasound

Tues & Wed 24-25: Daily Monitoring now.... Bloodwork and Ultrasound....

I'm on 11 day of stims now, and I think the average person is 7-10, maybe a little longer. I'll find out today in a little bit if I'm ready to trigger yet or need to go in for more monitoring tomorrow... once you trigger it is 36 hours and then ER. My clinic only does 5 day transfers, and then does the beta 10 days after. So it's already been over a month and I still haven't had my ER, although, yours might be a little different since you wont be doing BCP. (There are sample timelines online with other protocols I found too for an idea with the help of google)

I would just be afraid if you planned your trip that your cycle would extend longer, and I think you do need to continue to take shots and meds. You definitely can't take a trip right before since you'll have to do daily monitoring, but I wouldn't want to do one after unless it's really relaxing. I've actually been turning down plans and offers lately, since I don't know exactly how I will feel in the short future.

Dude.  I'm so sorry :( Did your doctor give you progesterone support?  I thought Midwest Fertility prescribed suppositories as a cautionary measure.  Odd that you'd be spotting so early.  That's a drag.

Don't have much to offer as far as IVF goes, but I know we got our IUI on the same day so I was pulling for you.  I hope you can find peace in your decision to move on to IVF.

FWIW, a friend of mine did IVF through MWFS and she got pregnant on the first go-round :) I have much hope for you, too.

Thank you for all the help & hugs.

@wishiwaspreggo - No spotting (just bought tampons because I used up the box last cycle & I know it's coming).  He's never put me on progesterone, I usually have a longer LP - but he always tests it after O and wants to see it above 10.  I'm usually between 16-20.  But I'll be creepily stalking you to see how you're doing!

  • So sorry.  In my experience, IVF cycles do last longer than IUI cycles.  I wouldn't plan anything for right after a cycle because IVF scheduling is really day by day and pretty unpredictable.  Also, you will be groggy after the egg retrieval and will want to take it easy on the day of your embryo transfer.  IVF is a little more difficult physically overall because your ovaries get so full particularly towards the end.  Good luck!
Ready to take the road less traveled.
  • I am so sorry. ((Hugs)). IF freaking sucks.
