low lying placenta

Had a mostly good a/s couldnt get measurements on spine, some brain, and the sex (team green anyway). Baby was breech, butt in my cervix, legs over head. So going back in 2 weeks.

Well my midwife called today and put me on pelvic rest because of a low laying placenta. I had it with ds too but wasnt told to change anything. Will check again at the us in 2 weeks.

Also n/t scan came back clear and bloodwork too was fine! :)

Re: low lying placenta

  • The midwife said she was being extra cautious, maybe because i had a loss in january?

I have a low lying placenta, too. I'm spotting this time around. Have been for two weeks now. I do notice an increase in blood/cramping with increased activity, therefore have been trying to take it easy (physically) in addition to pelvic rest.

I had a low lying placenta and was on pelvic rest with my previous/first pregnancy but never had any spotting.
  • Did they tell you how close it was to your cervix?  Mine measured at 1.9cm away, and then when she checked again it was 2cm and she said that was the cut off so I didn't need a follow up.

I was also told I have a low lying placenta or marginal placenta previa. I have another u/s scheduled at 24 weeks to do a cervical check and re-check my placenta but I'm not on any restrictions. I met with the doctor today and she said no restrictions unless I had any spotting/bleeding (I don't). At this time statistics are in our favor for it to correct :) worst case if it doesn't is a c-section per my MD.
same. mine was 1.5cm from cervix. 2 is the cutoff

This is pretty much the same thing I was told. I'm hoping it moves!

No, ill have to ask in 2 weeks. She did say it wasnt covering the opening but it was near it.

I also have marginal placenta previa. I actually had some bleeding that was more than spotting last week, so they put me on pelvic rest and i am supposed to take it easy physically. This includes not picking up my 18 month old from a standing position. Unfortunately, this is much easier said than done. They told me it revolves itself 80 to 90% of the time, so hopefully that will be the case.

I have marginal placenta previa too, and I'm on pelvic rest and some activity restrictions (no lifting, no running, etc). Getting checked again on 7/8 to see if the placenta has "shifted." Edit to add: I had some pretty significant bleeding at 14 weeks which is why I had an extra ultrasound to check it out. That turned into spotting for 3 weeks but it finally stopped so I'm hoping the placenta is no longer too close to my cervix.
  • My ultrasound tech said that the placenta is very likely to move up as the pregnancy progresses. I did NOT know this. Are you supposed to get another u/s when you go back in two weeks? I also didn't know that it was so common for babies to be breech at this point (baby was literally standing straight up in my body. Weirdo.)

  • Im just throwing out a guess of why theyre being extra cautious....

Yes, ill get another ultrasound then. July 8th too! :)
  • I am in a similar situation where my placenta is 1.5 cm away and was just told no intercourse because I would likely bleed. The u/s tech said this is normal and it will most likely move but I go back on July 7th for more anatomy and to check placenta.
