Noob questions and Tide Free and Gentle Powder?

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to CD and have BG 4.0 pockets.  I just started using them on my LO this week and felt like I researched for months and was prepared and now feel like I have no idea what I'm doing!!  My biggest question is can I use Tide Powder that is Free and Gentle version?  It is this one.  

Also, I need to expand my stash, so are there any others you would suggest I try that are similar to the 4.0?  How do you all feel about flips at home or AIO?  I didn't originally purchase AIO because you can't adjust the absorbency right? 

Lastly, the newborn inserts my LO is soaking through them in no time at all and I feel like I can't keep up. Any suggestions?  What hemp or bamboo inserts do you all suggest?

I'm no detergent expert, I only know what works for us.

Most of our stash is BG as well.  We like Kawaii as a cheaper but similar alternative.

Flips are fine, but personally I think there are similar but better options out there,  Blueberry and Wolbybug to name two.  I've never used the flip inserts, so I can't comment on them.  We use the covers with flats or prefolds.

Some AIOs will let you adjust absorbency, some won't.

If your LO is soaking through the NB inserts, try using the full size inserts snapped all the way down.

@kelly11235 thanks! What about hemp and bamboo inserts? Any experience with those ans which do you like?

Hemp and bamboo inserts are good. IMO there isn't a vast difference in different kinds. I like things like loopy dos and the blue berry combo inserts because they're microfiber and hemp combined. I have bamboo inserts that are cheap like alvas and some swaddlebees ones and they don't seem that different. The Alva ones get a little more weird bunching but is just cosmetic.

We stuff our BGs with small flats.

Cheaper than most hemp or bamboo inserts.

Ok last question @kelly11235, what do you ladies use as far as CD safe diaper cream?  DD seems to be getting a rash, so I want to get one good for rashes specifically...

CJs Butter is awesome.  Just don't buy it in the tube.  The tube is horribly difficult to use.

@Mapleme thanks!  Is it bad that I have washed them 3 times in tide free and clear already? if i "strip" how do I do that exactly? Also, I did a cold rinse, followed by a regular cycle that entails a hot wash with cold rinse at the end.  Do I need another rinse on top of this or is the last rinse everyone talks about included in that wash cycle?

FWIW I've exclusively used Tide F&G powder since DS was born (about five months) and don't have any issues.  That's not to say you wouldn't but i definitely wouldn't worry about "stripping" them after only a few washes. 

I'll likely switch back and forth with regular Tide to see how it goes but havn't done so yet.  I've had a little bit of irritation with Tide in the past and am trying to avoid it again.
