Talk to me about your success stories. I had started potty training DD at 22 months, She was interested and was showing readiness signs. The first 3 days, she peed on the potty 50% of the time, then I asked my mom for advice on how to continue the process. My mom instructed me to take her to the potty every 30 min. It ended up stressing her out so much that we had to interrupt potty training all together.
DD would throw her pull ups away, pee on the carpet, hold it in forever, etc...
Now, at 24 months, I would like to give it another try. She will sit on the potty, but will not do anything. I ask her if she wants to pee in the potty, she says NO.
Do you think I should try now or wait? Her pedi said to resume training...
Re: what method?
I went to that SPAM . I must say I was skeptical. I mean who are they trying to kid? No child can be trained in A FEW HOURS. But, my mom and I were speaking about it, and she bought it for me as a surprise.
My son is a little young to start potty training, but I thought why not give it a try. I was SHOCKED!!!!!!! He started going to the potty. I mean that afternoon. This product is unbelievable. I NEVER would have thought to try that for potty training.
HAHA..here's where I need help. I'm a single mom, and I'm not sure how to go about teaching him to "aim". and I'm so happy he is going in the potty, However...It creates such a mess to clean up. Any words of advice from moms here who have had this problem?
We did a more relaxed approach, led by her and gave her stickers for going potty. She is enjoying the process.
Thanks for the advice.
We didn't use a method necessarily. Some friends who had successfully potty trained had given me this advice:
Kids should be able to communicate that they have to go, be able to pull their own pants up and down, and have the muscle control to recognize that they have to go and hold it. Meaning, dry diapers in the morning and after naps.
DD couldn't QUITE pull her own pants up and down, but she could communicate pretty well at 2 1/2. We started potty training the week she turned 2 1/2. We'd put her on the potty every 15-30 min and offer lots of drinks so she'd have lots of chances to go. She had several accidents the first day, and every day after that she had fewer and fewer accidents. We'd use underwear at home and pull-ups when we were out for about 2-3 weeks. After 2-3 weeks, she had gotten the hang of it, and I was pretty confident that she had the muscle control to recognize that she had to go, communicate that, and hold it until she got to the potty. We used pull-ups at night until the package ran out- maybe another month. She's been in underwear with no accidents for about 5 months now. We had a little regression a couple of weeks ago where she would get busy playing and forget to go. We are working on that, but she's mostly doing well with it!
