1 nap a day mommas

How did you transition? How could you tell it was time to go to one nap? How do you get anything done if they're only napping one time a day? (jk) Tell me your one-nap-a-day story please!

Re: 1 nap a day mommas

  • Over the past 2 weeks LO has been down to one nap a day. She has been going down around 1:30 until about 3:30, so although it's only one nap, the duration is longer. I didn't do anything to transition to one nap instead of two. She just stopped falling asleep in the morning. I think now that the weather is nice and daycare tends to go out in the morning, she doesn't want to sleep and miss the outdoors. That's just my theory, since she loves being outside.

  • ahhh see, now this was the downside to having a friend watch him during the school year... she babied both her baby and mine and allowed them both to sleep in her arms for two naps a day and really didn't give them a schedule.  Now I'm doing all the work during the summer!!! :(
  • Mine transitioned by first dropping the afternoon nap and taking only a long one in the morning.  Then I pushed him through the morning so his nap would be in the afternoon that way he could make it through to dinner time.
The transition period was a little hard for me.   My suggestion to make it easier for you is to keep him entertained and active in the morning with lots of outside time.
I was scared of the one nap at first but now I like it better....it frees up your day a bit and you only have to go through the nap routine once.

  • We didn't do anything.  We never used to have a set time for naps so I just used to put her down when I noticed her getting sleepy and she stopped getting sleepy for her second nap by herself.  We now put her down every day at 10am and she sleeps for 1-2 hours.  Bedtime is at 7pm.

  • My LO kind of transitioned himself. He likes to nap anywhere between 1130-1:00 and sleeps for about 2 hours. He lets me know when he is ready to sleep. I try to keep him up until 1230 so he can eat lunch, but that doesn't always work. He has been taking one nap a day for about 2 months now. He sleeps better at night. Every once in awhile especially now that he has started walking he might take a half hour nap after dinner but it isn't often. Bedtime is between 8 and 9
