Vaginal Viagra

Have you used it? Did it help??

My FET#1 is delayed due to a thin lining and I'm starting vaginal viagra tomorrow. I would love to be positive and believe that it will work, but I'm feeling very pessimistic about everything right now.

Re: Vaginal Viagra

  • I hope you don't mind me chiming in, but vaginal viagra did not help me.  I had two FET's cancelled due to my thin lining.  Tried it for the second cancellation and it did nothing.  I know some people do have some success.  Good luck!

FET#2 August: delayed due to thin lining (6.3).  Took a few months off to try and thicken the lining with lots of estrodial.  FET#2.2 December: Cancelled due to thin lining (4.8). Two frosties left.

*New RE* Sonohystrogram and hystereoscopy done in Feb.

IVF #2: ER 3/4/14  ET 3/7/14, transferred 3, 3 day 9 cell perfect embryos.  No frosties.

@praying4Miracle17 thanks for your reply. My RE seems hopeful for the viagra, but I have my doubts. I see you were cancelled a couple times due to thin lining... how did it finally thicken?

If the viagra doesn't work, my RE wants to do a hysteroscopy to make sure its not a mechanical issue (adhesions) - though, this is pretty unlikely in my case. I already had a saline sono that did not show adhesisons. I guess it would take a closer look just to confirm. I'm so frustrated because I'm constantly getting delayed for various reasons. I started the IVF process back in February and have yet to do a transfer! I have 12 frozen embryos waiting, but that doesn't help me if we can't transfer them.

  • @gnl42 - after my second cancellation, I wasn't satisified with my RE's answer to "wait a few months to see if things improve" (since I had pretty much been waitin for months trying to thicken it up) so I went to a new RE.  We decided to leave my two frosties behind and do another fresh IVF (since that is the only time my lining has been thicker, I just didn't get a transfer right away because of OHSS (which is looks like you also had).  My lining for our fresh transfer really wasn't great (less than a 7), but all three implanted and I have one viable baby.  So, not sure what you lining is, but you can have success with a thinner lining.  If I had 12 frozen embryos, I would probably chance it with a 7/8 lining to see if that would work.  I only had 2 left at my old RE, so we were waiting for the perfect circumstances.  But that is just me.

Oh, and I also had a hysteroscopy at my new RE (wasn't put out for this one) and he didn't see anything concerning and I didn't have to be delayed since he was just going in to look and make a few cuts.  It was definitley painful, but I wasn't delayed and he didn't find anything concerning, so that was worth it.

@geordie314 I started with oral estrace at the end of May in preparation for this FET and then added vaginal estrace - I have been on both for probably about 2 weeks now. My lining got up to 6.3 last week, but then dropped to 5-5.5 this week, which my RE could not explain as she was expecting it to grow in that time. The plan is to give the Viagra 2 weeks to work. RE said it should have an effect after 1 week (and I will have a follow up then), but she wants a full 2 week trial before we say its not working.

@praying4miracle17 My lining got up to 7.5 during the last fresh cycle - and yeah, the transfer was cancelled because my E2 was >7,000 and RE was concerned for late onset OHSS (even though I felt fine). That was the thickest it had been since I started the IVF process. I wish we had just done the transfer then, but RE was adamant about freeze all. At that point, she was saying that with FET we could get my lining to be thicker since we can prolong estrogen exposure and have more control (so much for that reasoning).

With 12 frozen embryos, doing another fresh cycle is probably not the best option for me at this point. I guess we will try the Viagra and see how it goes. Maybe I will get lucky. I think RE is ok doing the transfer if I can get to at least 7.
