In regards to a shower...

My sister so graciously offered to throw me a shower and has planned to have it in Aug. I'll be almost 8mos with twins and am nervous I'll be huge and miserable. I haven't said anything to her, but thought I'd vent my concerns here. I just need to get over it, huh? I'm sure it'll be fine?

    Dont get over it. Move it up. At 8 months there is a high chance you will be delivered or on bedrest. And yes, you will be miserable. This gets asked on the multiples board a lot and the consensus is to shoot for prior to 30 weeks. I had mine at weeks 27, 28 & 29. I felt pretty good and was able to put away & exchange gifts. Things changed quickly and I was on bed rest by 33w and had outside babies by 35. Congrats on your twinnies!!

    I'm with you! I am due Oct. 7th but was told no later than Sept. 23rd - 29th for delivery if not sooner on my own. SO......with that said, my family is trying to surprise me sometime in July.  Definately speak up......what's worse, having you not be able to attend your own shower or pushing the date up a few weeks.   :)  Let us know how things go.

    Married August 2012 -- Me (40 yrs old) My husband (45 yrs. old) 

    RE referral from ObGYN in late Jan. 2013 -- Testing Confirms Unexplained IF 

    IUI #"s1 - 3 (Femara + IUI) April - June 2013 - all BFN

      Decided to do IVF... Began stimming on September 10th!  Egg Retrieval 9/20/13.  19 eggs: 6 to mature to freeze after 6 fertilized with ICSI

     3 morula stage embryos transferred on 9/25/13.....Beta #1 on 10/4/13/ = 7.5  Beta #2 on 10/6/13 =  negative

      IVF#2 - Lupron plan  (set to begin on 10/28/13)  (Planning on thawing and fertilizing our 6 eggs with ICSI as well as all of the mature eggs they retrieve with this fresh cycle.)

     Late October 2013 - ectopic pregnancy - methotrexate injection....benched 3 months

    CD1 - 12/5/13...Lupron set to start on 12/26/13; CD1 - 1/2/14....Baseline 1/3/14....begin follistim tonight and continue with lupron.  (Got my calendar today!  IVF#2 is a go!)

    ER = 1/14/14  (11 eggs....9 were mature. 9 fertilized.  Of the 6 mature eggs we thawed, only 4 fertilized.  At this time, we have 13 eggs fertilized and growing.  Waiting for news about a 3-day or 5-day transfer.)

    ET = 1/19/14  (5dt).....3 blastocysts transferred!   (All nine embryos didn't make it to freeze.  =(  )

    Beta #1 = 1/28/14   (2 weeks after ER)  BFP! 209 (9dp5dt)   EDD 10/7/14

    Beta #2 - 1/30/14  (11 dp5dt) 302

    Beta #3 - 2/3/14  (15 dp5dt)  1222 

    Ultrasound set for 2/17/14......TWINS!        Twin A - HR 124 bpm; Twin B - HR 126 bpm

    Final Ultrasound with RE 3/10/14 - Twin A - HR 176 bpm; Twin B - HR 177 bpm.

    I'd point out to her that it should be earlier due to possible complications. I'm also expecting twins and I was told I wouldn't go past 11/12 (EDD 12/2) so I told my sister September for a shower.

    I'll echo PP's... Definitely ask to have it moved up. I had my first shower at 27 weeks and was exhausted by the time it was over, but it gave me plenty of time to return duplicates and organize the rest. I'm 32 weeks now and am so glad to have all that behind me. Just in the last 5 weeks I've had to really slow down or I pay for it for a few days!

    I'm just having 1 baby and I've asked my sister who offered to host a shower to do it at least 8 weeks out, because even with just the 1 baby I wouldn't want to push it much closer just in case.  You want to be able to comfortably enjoy your shower!  I don't see anything wrong with nicely asking to have it a bit earlier and explaining why.

    Definitely move it up! 1) it's your shower 2) all the reasons above 3) you need to time to unpack the gifts, sort them out and order things you didn't get.

    You want at least a month of cushion to "do nothing" because there will always be something to do!

    I second all the pps. There is too high a chance of you not being able to attend due to bed rest or already having delivered! I would think 8 months is even kind of late for a singleton shower. Also, it takes a surprising amount of energy to go through gifts, wash clothes, do returns, and figure out what you still need.

    I am with everyone and say move it up. I am having a singleton and I had mine at 28 weeks. I wanted time to be able to unpack, wash, and organize everything. Plus - there are thank you notes to write! I would not consider waiting for 8 months for a singleton and there is no way that is a good idea for twins! GL!

    I'm in camp move-it-up. We have the same due date and my shower is in 3 weeks (July 12th) when I'll be 27 weeks. On the multiples board, the consensus seems to be to have most everything done by 28-30 weeks since your energy will be better and you never know how early they'll be here.

    Thanks for your support ladies!  I felt like I was being ungrateful, but now I know I have valid concerns.  We compromised on a date where I'm 30 weeks.  Now to start the registry.....
