Trying to Get Pregnant

Help please :/

I have been trying to conceive for 4 years, I recently started seeing a fertility dr.
I have had a HSG, I have had the blood tests and the ultrasound to check the ovaries and the follicles. My husband has has his testing. Everything came back okay.
This was the only testing that was done.
I went to the fertilty dr for a follow up and he said I don't ovulate ? And that I needed to do an IUI or IVF. 1. I have to ovulate because I menstruate. (Now it may be irregular but I ovulate non the less! granted I know this means it may be less times then someone who is not irregular) but by point is no testing was done.
I heard about clomid and I wanted info and they flat out said no and to talk to my obgyn.
Furious now I called my obgyn and scheduled and apt to talk to them about clomid, the flat out denied and referred me to another fertilty dr.
Defeated at this point and ready to give up, I decided to just go ttalk to them and see what they have to say. If I have to do IUI or IVF then it is what it is but i would rather not. They were able to see me the same day.
This was all on day one of when I was expecting my period. The dr talked and made me feel 200% better.
She did and ultrasound and told me my uterine lining was very thick and was wondering if I had heavy periods. I don't I told her and she told me that it is an early pregnancy sign. I was thrilled.
I took a test 2 days later and still no signs of my period and it was negative.
Now I'm and day 38 of my cycle and still no signs of a period. Could I possibly be pregnant???

So much in this post to discuss. First off, if you're not ovulating, you're not pregnant. I believe you can bleed (but not have your period) and not ovulate each month. Other ladies are much more experienced with IF drugs so I won't even go there.

You can have breakthrough bleeding on an anovulatory cycle, but it's not a true period. Most of the time that bleeding is caused by an abnormally thick uterine lining that can no longer sustain or support itself, so it just kind of sloughs off in chunks.

OP, in all seriousness, please ask your OB or the RE that you see for an endometrial biopsy. If your lining has overgrown, you end up at risk for hyperplasia, a precancerous change to your uterine lining.

Thank you for the correction, I know I had heard of bleeding but not ovulating (through BBT), now I know.

  • I have been tracking my cycles. Four out of the last 5 months it has been on time. Generally this is abnormal and I'm normally 3-5 days late. The 1st dr said no to chlomid because he will only do it with IUI. They never gave a great explanation. I understand why the GYN said no. The first RE never did testing to say I don't ovulate and you ovulate if you menstrate or at least I've always been told that. It's been 4 yrs TTC & 6 yrs unprotected with no pregnancy a of any sort. It's depressing. I'm sorry I freaked it's kinda hard and I expected some advice. Thanks!

I am sorry, I should have also said that I'm sorry you're having troubles. 4 years is a long time, and probably very frustrating. You're tracking, but are you temping to track? Temping is the only at home way to confirm ovulation. Check the newbie blog at the top of the TTGP board and learn.

  • Not at all she made me feel better because she is willing to do more testing that the other RE did not even suggest.

What do you mean you're "normally 3-5 days late?" That you usually have a 32-33 day cycle? How are you determining that's late and/or abnormal?

Are you tracking your BBT to confirm O at home?

Who did all of your testing if not the first doctor? What did the doctor who did all of your testing say?
  • ColeRose said:

If the test is negative, you are not pregnant at this time. Test once a week and call your doctor if you hit CD60. Personally, I think it was pretty shitty of that doctor to tell you that was an early pregnancy sign. Like super shitty.

I will let the more knowledgable ladies speak about clomid, IUIs, IVF

I know right? What kind of doctor tells a woman who has been trying for years to get pregnant that she's exhibiting early pregnancy signs?

I understand you're frustrated OP. And I think they may have jumped the gun saying you don't ovulate. It might be time to find a new doctor and get a referral to a specialist.

Glad to hear that it sounds like you aren't listening to anything we told you and are basically saying that no one gave you advice. Talk about ungrateful.
No you made an assumption. I was just explaining I am having a difficult time and came here for advice. It's been a hard road.

  • Please let me clarify. I have been tracking my cycle for about a year and just trying before then.
I skip my period one random month every year. I generally am 3-5 days late but I has gone up to a week. It's never the same day every month.

I have only been seeing an RE for 2 months.
last month they did one blood test, one ultrasound and one HSG. All those results came back okay.
I was told by shady grove fertilty clinic of chesterbrook PA that I don't ovulate (when was this testing done with only 3 tests?)

I am at day 38 of my cycle and stressing out which is good in no way. I pee 6xs a hour and have hot sweats all night. The 2nd RE said a thick lining is an early pregnancy sign and you know if you tell someone who has been trying this long they are happier then anything. Hopes are up but I'm being let down again.

To clarify, there is a difference between tracking your cycles and tracking your basal body temperature. Which are you doing?

I'll repeat my original question, how are you determining you are "late?"

Does it burn?? That's a lot of pee. I'm pretty sure I did not pee that much when I was 9 months pregnant...also, I'm not trying to be an asshole but I have night sweats too, it's summer and we haven't used our air much this year.

I understand that, I am tracking both ways.
I'm determining how I am late by how many days after my temperature is elevated on the BBT
  • Can you link your chart?

Cycles don't just begin on the same day every month. So, you may not be late just because it doesn't fall on the same day. I totally understand about getting your hopes up and being let down. I strongly suggest tracking your BBT. I just started doing that too and it has given me so much helpful info about my cycle that I wouldn't have know otherwise. Take a look at the newbie blog for more info. Also, if the RE really did say that the thick lining was an early pregnancy sign, I would suggest finding a new RE.

  • Are you using an app to track your bbt? Fertility friend, perhaps?

Ours has been on since may. It's been hot here in philly. At 65 I'm still sweating. And 6xs is an exaggeration. But it has been a numerous amount

The ladies here use Fertility Friend because of its ease of use, free, and easily linkable charts so we can all help each other out. Has great tutorials as well!

  • @arasbear3 I'd still be interested in seeing a few of your charts, even if you just post screen shots. :)
  • Shady Grove is usually considered to be a pretty reputable fertility clinic. I feel like what you are saying doesn't completely add up. I think you need to do some research and I would start by reading the 3T blog. If you become more knowledagable about TTC in general it will help you to understand what your RE is suggesting.

I made sure my husband and sister came along with me to the visit. Shady grove is supposed to reputable that's why I chose them. They did not testing to confirm anything about my ovulation. They should have done a natural cycle to see what's going on. I saw dr Munabi at shady grove and while he was great he was not the best choice for me

Really OP?? I read the whole thread and refrained from posting until now. You've been trying for years and years and then post on the board?? You get great advice from PPs and then basically spit on it bc you magically got a BFP the day after you post for the first time?

    Gimme a break. Bye!

It's not for you to believe, or care for that matter!! I posted last night in a freak out. I had my blood test originally scheduled for Thursday and after speaking to everyone in here I decided to see one last time before I pay money to go to a specialist visit and The test is positive. It is what it is! I'm done enjoying bashing ;) obviously not many of you have anything better to do ;) bye
