Trying to Get Pregnant

New here.. Taking clomid

Hello everyone! My husband and I have been trying for 14 months. I started 50 mg of clomid in May and had my period :( now I am taking 100mg and really hoping the second round works. Anyone have advice or info they would like to share about their clomid experience? How fast did clomid work for everyone?

Re: New here.. Taking clomid

  • I will probably be taking Clomid soon so I'm interested to see what the responses will be.  I have no advice to offer but do want to mention you should definitely be taking Clomid under RE supervision and be getting regular ultrasounds to monitor follicle development as well.  Have you had an HSG performed?

  • @nariadreaming-What blood work is supposed to be done?  I just had a discussion with my RE regarding Clomid and she did mention monitoring ultrasounds, but I don't think she mentioned anything regarding blood work.

I have had my ovaries checked before I started my second round. My progesterone level is low that is why I'm taking clomid. My husband had a semen analysis and everything is fine with him. Right now I am working with my obgyn. After three failed rounds of clomid they will send me to a RE.

I have no had a hsg test.
  • My advice about Clomid is to not waste your time, money, and health with an OB/GYN.

In addition to the ultrasound at the beginning of your cycle you need mid-cycle monitoring to see how you're responding. You should have an HSG and your husband should have a SA *before* you start Clomid.

  • @Kam310-Having your ovaries checked is completely different than making sure your tubes are not blocked or that there are no uterine abnormalities which is why an HSG or an SIS performed.  If you have not had the typical blood work up or HSG/SIS, I would seriously reconsider or at least question your doctor as to why he/she feels these workups are not necessary before you take a hardcore drug like Clomid.

LH, FSH, E2, and Prolactin before your first cycle. On subsequent cycles normally just E2. Some RE's don't do a CD3 blood draw every cycle and just do an u/s. I prefer to get the blood draw as well.
Oh ok.  I had those done as part of the RPL panel and was wondering if they would have to be done during every medicated cycle.  She definitely said at minimum two ultrasounds if not more during the Clomid cycles and I will ask about the blood work as well.  Thank you for the info!

I've had my prolactin and progesterone checked before my first round. I also get blood work done around day 21 to check and see how strong my ovulation was. I had an ultrasound last September and they said everything is fine. My only concern now would be blocked tubes since I have no had a HSG test. You all are very helpful! Thank you very much!

I had one just to check my anatomy nothing more. I'm not really sure why I'm not being monitored more on clomid. Shouldn't it be protocol to do that?

Lurking from D14. I have polycystic ovaries and was put on clomid after having trouble TTC. My first round worked and we're due December 3. For some it works very well and for others it doesnt. Just depends on the specidics of the case I guess
    Good luck to you!

If this rounds fails (which would be 2 failed rounds) I will not start another round of clomid I will just go to a RE.
  • OP, you got lots of good info from PPs, just wanted to add that I hope you are able to find an RE soon that will help you! I understand wanting to trust your doctor but it's good that you listened to the advice here and advocate for yourself! good luck!

I don't know how big my follicles were on 50 mg bc they didn't monitor me.
  • I just took my 3rd round of clomid. I took the first one (50mg) that failed. That was after a whole work-up (bloodwork, US, HSG, SA). I got ku the 2nd round (100mg)... had a healthy baby girl. Now she is 16 months and I just finished my 3rd round (1st after DD). Before taking it again, I did bloodwork, another US, and 4 months of negative OPKs/temping (showing no signs of ovulation). My OB manages all of this, including labs/US's to monitor overstimulation/risks/effectiveness. I think if 3 rounds fail, he will send me to a RE. I have a small cyst on my ovary (1.2 cm), which is the reason OB is giving for the frequent US. My first round, they didn't do any mid-cycle to check for follicles.

This month, I definitely ovulated. yay! currently in the 2WW... plan to test on the 3rd of July. I took my clomid before bed this time, which really cut down on the side effects for me. Last time I was getting some serious hot flashes and was downright mean.
