What to do with formula samples?

While I was pregnant I signed up for Similac and Enfamil coupons and samples. So I have a ton of formula sitting in my cabinets that I probably won't use. I've been very lucky with BFing and all the sample formula I got is for supplementation only up to 3 months. DD is 7 weeks and unless something happens in the next 5-6 weeks I have no use for it. I'll probably wait until we hit the 3 month mark just so as not to tempt fate but what can I do with it afterwards?

I would never try to sell it. Do you think I can donate it? I wouldn't even know where to start looking for places to take it. Any suggestions?

Re: What to do with formula samples?

  • I donate all samples I get to the local Women's shelter.

I ordered a lot of samples too. I kept 3 containers of good start as they expire when DS turns 1. I have them for an absolute emergency. I donated all the rest I collected or gave away. I will do the same with that stash when I don't need it.

When they call too I lie and say I am formula feeding please send more samples. Then I donate those and pass the coupons to other mommies in the area.
  • Food banks and shelters will never turn away formula samples! Mine are all going to our local night shelter in a month or so if BF continues to go well for us.

  • Ditto pp. I took mine to my town's food bank.

  • I am ff but have tons of samples for different brands I don't plan on using. I am going to call a local shelter to see if they are accepting donations.
  • I see "shelters" a lot in this post. I would also suggest domestic violence safe houses. A lot of moms trying to start a new life with their kids and as you ladies said, formula is expensive.

*snip* We did have to supplement in the early days, so we'll keep the one we opened. *snip*

Just an FYI since it sounds like you stopped supplementing. I think the tubs are only good for 30 days after opening.

  • I hear freezing it preserves the freshness buy I haven't researched it. I do know there is the 30 day rule.
  • Donating it is a good idea. I didn't even think about that. I was also thinking what I would do with all the samples I got from my OB's office. Because I have so many different brands and kinds I know I wouldn't use them.
