Cloth Diapering

Newborn stash help

I'm working on building my newborn stash for when LO comes in November. I started DD in cloth at 16 months so this is my first time cloth diapering a newborn. She has only been in kawaii pockets since they have worked well for her.

Just bought (and waiting to recieve)

24 workhouse fitted diapers
3 blueberry mini coveralls
1 bummis wrap

Now I am thinking 36 diaper changes is a good number for a newborn, but correct me if I am wrong.

What should I do for the other 12 diapers? I remember how exhausting the middle of the night changes were so I was thinking maybe kawaii newborn pockets? Or should I buy more fitteds or try prefolds. Are prefolds hard to get a good fit on newborns?

DH says he won't do prefolds...although he said he wouldn't do cloth diapers at all and now he loves them...

Thank you for your help ladies :)
Audrey is going to be a big sister!

I was surprised to find that I love prefolds for a NB. (I use the jelly roll fold.) And they are super cheap, so I'd go for it. I also really like my NB simplex, especially for the diaper bag. But they didn't fit until 3-4 weeks.

I really liked my prefolds as well.  Pockets during the first 4 weeks just didn't work as well to contain the poop.

I'd get a dozen prefolds and 1-2 different covers.

@sarenu1 An additional 1-2 covers to the four I just bought?

I'll be honest, my folds weren't the best.  I had 4-6 covers in rotation with my son.  The workhorses might keep poop off the covers better though.

I'm also biased, I didn't not like the mini coveralls.  The fit just didn't work for my son.

I only have one Capri, but I really like it. The bummis is really good too, and the rumparooz. But the aplix in the thirsties isn't holding up as well as the others.

I agree, I loved my Bummis Super Brites, Rumparooz, and hated the aplix and fit of the Thirsties size 1.

Do you have new style Thirsties aplix or old? I thought the concensus was the new aplix was good? No?

  • Id say try flats but if dh isn't on board with prefolds then flats would be a super hard sell.

Go with prefolds and more covers. I was naive to think 4 was enough. I had to hand wash a lot so I just ordered two more and we make it with 6 no problem. 8 would be really comfortable.

Oh yeah, these are probably old style. Good call.
