Cloth Diapering

an ounce of prevention hopefully

Ds is on antibiotics for the first time in his life and I don't want to have to deal with a pound of cure if I can avoid it.

So, other than probiotics (which I could use some help with figuring out) is there anything I should be doing to prevent yeast or other nasties from taking advantage of the antibiotics?  Ds is milk allergic so regular yogurt is out.

I use flats with covers about 95% or more if that helps anything, the remainder is pockets stuffed with flats.

Probiotics is about the best you can do. Go for one that requires refrigeration, those are the good ones. Flats won't be bad to bleach if you do get yeast, so there's that.

  • I don't know if this helps, but I put CJ's on every change to help prevent rash.

And it doesn't happen with every kid.

My daughter didn't need antibiotics until after her first birthday.  She has some pretty stiff poops, so if anything this loosened things up for her.  She still didn't have any really soft ones.

Maybe add some bananas or apples to meals?

  • Since I use boiling water when I handwash, I wonder if that might be worth doing too.

  • We do oral probiotics, CJ plus spray with diaper changes that are poop or if he's red and GSE added to our laundry routine. We've had 3-4 rounds of antibiotics with both kiddos and haven't had yeast.
I did have to deal with yeast rash in DS1 his first time with abx but haven't since we started doing this new routine while on meds we drop the gse and probiotics when they are healthy.
    Good luck!
