Rooming Q - share or separate?

Next month we are moving from our 2br house into a 3br. Right now DS2(4mo) is in our room and DS1(4yo) has his own room. DS2 will NOT be in our room when we move. Momma and Daddy need their adult alone time!!! We have two options, obvs. 1. Boys each get their own room, their toys and books are in their respective rooms. or 2. Boys share a room and have a dedicated playroom. 

I like both ideas. But I LOVE the idea of having all the toys in a playroom and not all over the house. Also, no worries about DS1 playing with his toys instead of taking a nap or when he is in time out. BUT.... is 4mo too young to share a room? He still wakes up once a night and DH is concerned that he will wake DS1 up and then we will have two kids to get back to sleep, and that DS1 will be cranky every morning from broken sleep. I'm not so concerned about getting him back to bed, he likes his sleep and that's never been a problem. Thoughts? Has anyone had littles that have roomed together around these ages?

I would want separate rooms at this age, so they don't wake each other up.  If they were older I would think the play room is a great idea.

My DDs share a room.  They are 6 and 14 months.  They started room sharing when the baby was around 9 months old.  So far, so good.

@FalconCrest did your DD still wake up MOTN at 9 months?

@Tangerine01 we would have to disassemble the crib to get it out of our room and into DS1s room. Otherwise we def would try it for the next couple weeks to see. I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to do a trial when we first move in....

Sleep is a big thing in our house too! They go to bed about the same time at night and I try to get them to nap at the same time on the weekends....

I've always been pro "everyone have their own room" too. But I just can't get that playroom out of my head...

Yes, the baby still does not sleep through the night.  DD1 is a pretty heavy sleeper though, so it has not been a problem.  They love sharing a room, and I hope it encourages a close bond for them despite the age difference.

Oh I forgot about this aspect! DS1 has been wanting DS2 to sleep in his bed since he was born. I mentioned when we move that they might be sharing a room, but then when we went to the house last week I showed DS1 which room would be his, which would be DS2's and which would be mine and DH's. DS1 got upset because he wanted to share a room with DS2. Now I don't let a 4yo call the shots and still have to weight the pros and cons but it's definitely a factor

We only have 2 bd right now so my boys share.  DS2 stayed in our room until 8 months when he was reliably STTN.  We haven't had a problem with them sharing.

Another thing I hadn't thought about is that DS2 won't be able to play unsupervised in the playroom for a long time anyway because of little pieces in DS1's toys. So DS2 wouldn't have anywhere to sit and play with his baby toys aside from the living room. And toys in every damn room of the house is what I'm hoping to avoid. 

And about the sleeping issue - I'm not worried about once they are asleep but I have a feeling DS1 might try to play with DS2 is he's not fully asleep. He loves the crap out of his little brother.

@TyrannosaurusLex  yes we still have her and she's doing great. My dad is putting up a privacy fence at the new house for us before we move in.

So glad, is a privacy fence special in any way from another type of fence?

It is 6ft high so they can't jump it.
