Getting Healthy Check-In

Sorry to steal your thread, @holligans4, but I need a Getting Healthy Check-In from the ladies here.

How was everyone's week last week?
What struggles are you currently facing?
And since small victories add up to bigger victories, what is your small victory for the week?

Everyone is welcomed to contribute and share!

Re: Getting Healthy Check-In

  • I threw my back out before vacation in May and have had a hard time getting back into a groove since then. I am physically better, but am just feeling lazy with getting back on track. I had been diligently working out since Jan and making better (lifelong) food choices and only managed to lose 4 lbs which is a major blow to the ego - and then I gained back 3. Once I went on vacation, it just felt easy to stay on vacation. I only gained 1 lb on vacation (not bad) but I had company come into town a week ago for a concert and managed to gain 3+ lbs, which puts me at 3lbs over my "starting weight" so I'm feeling totally defeated and frustrated.

After talking to DH he suggested that we change up my workout routine and just keep a slightly better eye on our portion sizes (since we do eat pretty healthy most of the time) and we'll see how that works, so I guess my personal victory is hopping back on track. Today is Day #1 at the Gym for the week and I am hoping to get 4 days in this week. Let's see how it goes!

  • Thanks @MamaBear904 I know I've been bad.

I've hit the wall!!!! Every time I think I lost another pound the next time I get on the scale it goes back. This has been going on for three weeks so I've been very discouraged.

My small victory is I'm doing yoga and today I'm going to try Pilates.
I hope this gets me going again.

But from doing it for just two days my body hurts. Like really, really hurts.
But I'm going to keep going. I have 10 more pounds to loose.

    I can do this!!!!!

How have you been doing MamaBear

  • @hooligans4, sounds like you need a change. You've changed up your exercise routine (which happens to be what I am doing too!) and that's good, but maybe you need to change up your diet too. Our bodies get used to us eating the same things, so all I can think of is to try a new menu for a week or two to trick up your body.

About 6 years ago, I participated in a local news channel's version of the Biggest Loser and got to meet Julie Haden who was one of the contestants (I think Season 3 or 4). She said that when she plateau'd, her trainers told her to spike her calories one or two days (I think she went from 1100 to like 1800 for a period of 2 days) and then got back on track and by doing this it tricked her body into losing more weight. I don't know if I would do it as extreme, but it probably wouldn't hurt to at least change up your menu and maybe use whole fat yogurt versus fat free (for example) for a day or two to give you a short-lived spike.

Here's a pic from me on the show (ugh, that was 10 lbs ago!)

  • Haha! Great minds… ;)

How was everyone's week last week?

Last week I ate really healthy from M-F. Saturday I kind of got a little crazy, but it was mainly stress induced. I was only about 350 cals over my goal, but I still felt like a big ol’ slug. When I eat too much, I tend to pack on sodium/water weight gain that will stay there for 4 days. Depressing!

What struggles are you currently facing?
I bulked in the winter meaning I gained weight on purpose in order to gain more muscle. Well—I did gain more muscle, but my lower stomach has a pooch that will NOT go away. I am pretty fit everywhere else, but this pooch is from bulking, and now that I’m cutting, I need to lose it. Especially since my wedding is in 11 weeks!

And since small victories add up to bigger victories, what is your small victory for the week?

This week, I was able to deadlift 170lbs, leg extension 130lbs, and dumbbell curl 40’s! Getting stronger!

  • @MamaBear904‌ that's awesome that you got to do the biggest looser. That's my favorite show!!!!!!

My diet is hard because I am vegetarian it's hard to eat enough calories without eating too many carbs. But I will try the full fat yogurt and maybe eat full fat cheese instead if fat free for a week and see how it goes. This week will be tough though because AF is showing up any day now. Grrrrrr

  • The Biggest Loser thing was fun, but short lived. They eliminated one male contestant per week then a female contestant the next week. I was the first female to go because I worked (had my own business) and couldn't live at the gym. I also heard that 2 of the other girls did a "cabbage diet" to slim down fast, so I didn't stand a chance. lol. It would have been nice to be able to continue with the dietitian for the full term of the program (which was like 10 weeks long, I think). Oh well. I still run into the girl who won (top right girl) at the gym sometimes.

  • @MamaBear904 Thanks for starting this up again! It's perfect timing for me. @hooligans4 Good for you for the yoga and Pilates, it will definitely help! @lgsdesigner you will look beautiful in your wedding dress whether the pooch disappears or not! Good luck though!

As for me, we took the weekend off because I wanted to start "clean eating" today. So, we went to cheesecake factory and I had shrimp alfredo. It was SO good. I had cake too, because I haven't had anything sweet in over a month. I've lost 16lbs since starting in late May.

However, it's been a tough road. The scale is not my friend. I would go down 1-2lbs then up 3lbs. Yo-yo-ing the entire month. It was super frustrating. But I managed to get there. So now I need to lose 10ish more lbs. And I want to do it before the end of July. So starting today, I'm eating clean.

No processed foods (no sugar, flour, white rice, etc.), little to no dairy, very few to carbs. I just started today, and it's not much different then what I've been doing. It's just a little tougher cause I can't rely on a 100 calorie pack for a quick snack. I'm also going to try to exercise every day this week.

Small victory: So far so good today, nothing processed has passed these lips!

Sorry for the long post, but this is my priority right now. I'm doing this to get by first BFP!

  • way to go!@soontobeshrader  16lbs is great!
@lgsdesigner  those are some impressive weights.  Are you deadlifting more than your weight now?
    You'll get there! @hooligans4
How was everyone's week last week?
Not too bad, all things considered.  I was good with the diet and managed to do at least some of my workout program.

What struggles are you currently facing?
Getting the flu set me back for weeks.  I mysteriously gained 5 pounds in that period.  I'm hoping it's just water/inflammation. (So, I sympathize with you, @MamaBear904)

And since small victories add up to bigger victories, what is your small victory for the week?
I'm just happy to be working out again.
  • Ive been off the wagon completely. Since my hubby put a stop to grocery shopping that one time (meaning not enough food in the house and what we did have was crap) I have lost the motivation that i had (and i was crazy motivated)

Well i am positive I have gained all i lost and then some….so much i feel awful so i feel like I'm ready to start again. Grocery store tomorrow and back on track.

  • Isn't it incredible that we all seem to have fallen off track at the same time? I'm glad to hear that many of us are overcoming that and getting back to it. We can do this!

I sabotaged myself last night when a friend took me out to dinner and lost all willpower and ended up with a cheeseburger and fries. I'm trying not to beat myself up about it too much and hope that if I can stay on track the rest of the week, I'll be ok. Damn this eating / living healthy thing is HARD. It's by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do!
