    My sweet 4 year old lab, Big Dumb Paul, got into a bag of lawn insecticide in our shed today.  I noticed he was walking a little funny this evening, and when I followed him outside, I found the shredded bag, and he had poop that had visible insecticide in it.  I immediately called poison control, and rushed him to the Emergency Vet.   By the time we got there, he was having muscle tremors and some muscle weakness in his hind quarters.

    He was a rescue that we've had for about 2 1/2 years.  I love him so much, and I am just praying that the meds and IV fluids really help him tonight.  They are keeping him there tonight, and we'll find out in the morning if he comes home or gets transferred to our regular vet for extended care.  Any extra T&Ps would br greatly appreciated.

************UPDATE**************

    First of all, I would like to thank all of you wonderful ladies for our support, prayers, and well wishes.  Paul isn't home yet.  They transferred him from emergency care to our regular vet for monitoring today.  He's going to live, but we're waiting to see if he will continue to have neurological effects (tremors and weakness) or if he will pull through fine.  He is peeing and pooping which is a great sign that his liver and kidneys are functioning properly, but he has a 3 degree temperature right now, and they will at least keep him until this afternoon, if not until tomorrow morning.  According to our vet, he's out of the woods and into the weeds now.  The half life of the poison is 24 hours, so we'll have better answers this afternoon.  

10:30am Update: The vet just calle dand said he had a grand mal seizure, so things aren't looking as good as they were earlier this morning....

    I had a couple of pretty strong contractions last night, but none today.  My OB said they were probably just from stress and physical exertion and to try to relax and take it easy today.  (I had to lift Paul into the car last night, because DH was stuck at work.)

Thought and prayers...my dogs are my other kids so can relate big time! It's possible with something effecting him neurologically he might have seizures for days or life I've seen this in animals and ppl. It's controlled with meds so as long as he stays in the weeds he should be okay....good luck praying for him and you...he sure is handsome!

They wanted to keep him hospitalized tonight too, but they said if his seizures continue, we need to think about putting him down.   I don't really want to consider that yet, but if it a possibility, I would rather have him home with us as long as possible.  We have a Valium suppository in case he seizes again, and we're just praying for the best at this point. He seems calmer at home, and is eating and drinking well.  We've had him home about 3 hours and we're letting him have whatever he wants within moderation.  He's had 4 cups of food and 9 cups of water.  He's still shaky, weak, and tired, but seems happier here at home.  Time will tell.

ER vet here, I definitely don't think you need to consider euthanasia because of some tox induced seizures. Not gonna lie, rDVMs see nothing like ER DVMs so things like that scare them much more. I wouldn't have recommend taking him home until 24 hour seizure free though (I know it's hard leaving them hospitalized). The more seizure you have, the more prone you are to have more. If he has any seizure behavior, def use your rectal Valium. Perhaps they should consider some keppra short term (safer on organs vs phenobab since the tox could affect those organs). Most traumatic or tox induced seizures aren't life long. I would definitely say that most toxin dogs do go on to do well. So fx for you and let me know if you have any questions. I'm bumping occasionally through my overnight shift.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry to read about Paul's seizure.  I had a foster dog that had Grand Mal seizures and it was always a scary thing to witness, but with meds they didn't happen very often.  I hope that Paul is doing OK and gets to come home soon.  My T&Ps are with you honey!

@maryhr1  He is doing fantastic this morning.  No more seizures so far, and all of his blood work cam back normal today!
