Follicle shrinkage before HCG Shot?

Hi:

I went in for my ultrasound yesterday and everything was beautiful. Four follicles between 18-21 and my lining was 8.85. The RE wanted to wait one more day to get a little more growth, which really frustrated me because I tend to ovulate on my own CD12 and yesterday it was CD11, but they are the experts right? So I go in this morning and 2 follicles decreased by 1 mm and 1 grew by 1 mm and one stayed the same so they gave me the HCG shot today with IUI scheduled for tomorrow and Tuesday. I guess I'm concerned the RE missed the prime time to give me the HCG yesterday. Any thoughts, experiences with a shrinking follicle prior to HCG shot? I know their is all out of my hands at this point so I can't sit around all day worrying, but it's hard.

I have no experience but do you think it's possible that maybe the measurements could be off just a little bit since it's such a small difference? I've never heard of anyone having a follicle shrink just their E2 going down. Did your E2 continue to rise? If your E2 didn't go down and it went up I wouldn't worry as much.

The RE doesn't test my E2 levels which is frustrating, but now that you mention it she did change the measurement of one after moving the stick around. Thanks for bringing that up, I feel much better!

I second that. Ultrasound only provides a two-dimensional view.

My first thought was just a difference in the measurement angle, as well. Did the tech mention that the follicle edges of the smaller ones had gotten fuzzy, indicating the follicle was starting to O? If not, I would say their timing was probably good.

I was told on my cd 12 scan that my follicles were smaller than what they told me on cd 10...I was a little upset about that because I was expecting a 2mm growth but the dr (different than the first) told me that the measurements are not exact and can differ depending on who is measuring.

Try not to worry too much about those sizes-there is nothing you can do about it-at least that what I had to tell myself ; )

Thanks everyone for your input and support I appreciate it so much, especially since I have no one IRL that is going through infertility issues/treatment.

I do think I'm ovulating though, so I hope the IUI isn't too late in the game.
