Cloth Diapering

Simplex lovers-elastic replacement question

I guess we love our simplex too much because after a year & a half of frequent use, the elastic is almost shot. Anyone replaced theirs before?  I can't seem to find a replacement kit like BG has, so just looking for advice.

Re: Simplex lovers-elastic replacement question

  • I haven't had to do this, but when I look at the elastic on my Simplex it looks like you could just take off the old elastic with a seam ripper, and if you are careful you wouldn't be taking apart any other parts of the diaper. I might try sewing the new elastic on with my machine, but if my machine couldn't handle it I would probably tack it to the diaper every 1/4-1/2" or so.

  • You don't even have to remove the old elastic, you can sew the new one right over the old. You can by elastic from diapersewingsupplies.com, kidsinthegarden.com, or wazoodle.com or you can source it locally, just make sure that it states it can handle washing temperatures of over 125 degrees, or something like that.

  • Thanks.  Maybe I'll put my mom on this :)  I also got this response from Blueberry:

You will need the 1/4 inch poly braid elastic to do the replacement. Here is a quick link to the site: https://www.verybaby.com/1-4-inch-polybraid-elastic/
