TTC after 35

Reality check needed

Hi everyone I need a reality check. I am ttc baby #2. I am 35 and had my dds when I was 33. Conceived my son in the first month, no problem. This time around it is month 5 and nothing but bfns. I have tried opks, cervical mucus, basal body temp and all indicates we are timing things well. I am paranoid though that something has gone wrong since my first pregnancy. What should I do? Anything else I can try? Am I crazy?

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to promote conception.  After 6 months of trying for those of us who are 35 or older it would be reasonable to see a RE for testing and potentially treatment.  It just depends how aggressive you want to be, and I have seen many people get BFP between months 6 and 12 of trying.  You may be less fertile now than when you conceived your DS or you might just have just gotten lucky then.  I'm sorry I don't have more concrete answers for you but know that you are not crazy.  TTC will drive you nuts.

I would say PP has said all there is to say on the next steps. The only thing I would add/ask is how frequently are you "attempting" from after your period through your fertility window? Maybe try increasing the number of times you have intercourse to daily or every other day if you are not yet doing so. Sorry you are frustrated. Good luck!

  • Yep.  Seeing an RE doesn't mean you have to do crazy treatments but they can at least check your hormone levels & look at your follicle count so you know what you are dealing with, if anything.  It took almost 2 months to get in to our RE so I'd set an appointment and then, hopefully, you can end up just cancelling it.
@JimBobCooter: That is good advice and something that I hadn't considered.

  • Me too. 5 months of active trying. On CD3 now. :(
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • Same boat here. We got pregnant the very first try with DD (Not just the first cycle but literally the first try) and we are 5 months in trying for #2 and nothing yet.
