gardens

Let's hear what's happening in your gardens!

We are drastically behind in the building of new beds. Turns out the part of our yard we are adding them in completely sandy so we are slowly working on building raised beds and digging out grass/sand to add topsoil. It's mostly going to be prep for next year. Our acorn squash, tomato, pepper, swiss chard, and various herbs are doing well. Strawberry plant is flourishing. Eggplant not doing great, but the cucuzza squash is starting out well. Still want to get more seeds started. The new weed whacker rocks!

  • My lettuce is done. I have pulled a few potatoes but think they need a couple more weeks. I am starting to get cucumbers. Still waiting on the carrots, tomatoes, peppers, and squash.
  • @maryxc1 Where do you live? We are no where near harvesting anything here. Do you do head lettuce or loose leaf?

I live in SC. My mother, who is also in SC but farther south in the state, is already harvesting almost everything except corn and peppers. She even got a couple tomatoes the other day.

I did one variety of head lettuce and one if loose. This is only the second year I have done lettuce and last year it failed miserably. This year my lettuce did well but my spinach was a flip. I do not have a green thumb at all so who knows.

  • Sorry about the double post. Technology problems.
  • Yeah, lettuces don't do well in too much heat. I find gardening failures are good learning experiences.

  • We have a pumpkin!  We thought it was going to be a spaghetti squash but it's totally getting huge and pumpkin shaped!
