Rash Around Nose/Mouth

It resembles what her pediatrician called baby acne. It's just tiny red bumps. They're on both sides of her nose, above her upper lip, and below her bottom lip to her chin. I've been putting lotion on the areas, but it's not getting any better. I had thought at first it may be from drooling, but it being around her nose makes me think that's not it.

Anyone know of a specific type of lotion/cream that may help? It doesn't seem to bother her at all. It just looks bad.

Thanks.

Re: Rash Around Nose/Mouth

  • Is there a slight space between the line of her lip and the bumps? If so, it sounds VERY similar to what my LO had, which was diagnosed as perioral dermatitis--basically a rash around the nose and mouth. His was around his mouth, up the creases next to his nose, and even under his eyes at its worst. It varied from being red and flaky looking in the mornings to little pimple like bumps in the afternoon. We had the most success with erthromycin, which is a topical antibiotic. You can also do it as an oral antibiotic. It didn't clear it up completely though-- that happened when we went to Mexico, and I think the humidity really helped a lot (the rash came on in November and lasted til February).

I heard a LOT of mis diagnoses--oh it's a contact allergy, it's from drool, it's from his paci, it's a food allergy. I would definitely see a dermatologist to get some answers!

  • I use only Aveeno or Aquaphor on DD.  She had a rash on her chin for a few weeks that the doc said was just contact dermatitis so we kept it clean and moisturized and it finally went away.
