Maids?

Lately I've honestly been thinking of hiring a maid. That might make me sound superficial but both my husband and I work full time. I really don't want to spend the little time I get off slaving away and cleaning. Does anyone have one? What's the average pay rate of a maid?

Re: Maids?

  • When I was working full time, a cleaning lady was the best investment I made.  She made our lives so much easier.  The last thing I wanted to do on the weekends was spend hours cleaning the house. We had her come every other week, I know people who have a cleaning lady come every week, or monthly.  It is kind of up to you.

I have found that the cost depends on the area, but becomes pretty standard within an area. In our old house, the cost per hour was cheaper, but everybody seemed to charge about the same.  In our new house, the cost per hour is much more expensive, but the prices are all within the same range.  I would ask friends who live around you how much they pay.

We had two cleaning ladies and one was far superior than the other.  Don't be afraid to switch until you find one that does what you need.

  • Do it!! Seriously, coming home to a clean house is so awesome. We have a cleaning company come once a month and found them through Angie's List, I think it's $230/month and they are there for 2-3 hrs. You could probably find someone cheaper through friends or family. It's not like I never have to clean anymore but they do a deep clean (like window shades, fans, baseboards, etc) which I never feel like doing. DH and I have always fought about cleaning and this has made such huge difference for me.
  • I am thinking about getting one.  Maybe once or twice a month.  I am expecting to pay at least $50.  I will start after the summer when I go back to work.

  • I have been looking into this as well, for all the same reasons!  DH always gives me crap about how little I clean now (I used to spend several hours every weekend deep-cleaning our house), but I would much rather spend that time with DD now.  As soon as I can fit it into our budget, I'm hiring someone.  I'm probably going to do every other week, with one time a month being a more deep clean, and the other time being a little less thorough.  Right now my house just doesn't really get cleaned (aside from usual pickup) unless people are coming over..... so anything will be better than that :)
