EBF feeding too much?

DS is 4weeks old and is EBF. He eats every 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours during the day. He eats the same amount at night. He is getting a lot at eat each feeding for sure. When I pump for only a few minutes I get 5-6 oz. He eats for 15-20 minutes so I'm thinking he's getting like 8 - 10 oz a feeding. He is huge! He probably weighs 14 lbs now. Is he getting too much? My breasts are very full and heavy all the time. I feel like he is getting way too much for his age. Should I back off the time or hold him off between feedings longer? He's just gaining weight so rapidly... Was 10 lbs 10 oz less than 2 weeks ago, now is 14 lbs. help.

Re: EBF feeding too much?

  • Ok thank you. I really want to pump some so DH can do a feeding. I also was hoping to have a little extra for the freezer too. How do you guys suggest I do that? Also, I don't know what block feeding is, I will look for that at Kelly Mom.

  • Couldn't find anything on block feeding online. Is that where you feed from one side only at each feeding?

  • Yes, block feeding is only feeding on one side each time.
  • Yesterday I fed on only one side at each feeding and it worked amazingly! I think that he wasn't getting the rich hind milk which was causing him to get too much lactose and also not feel full. His poop was green and he was so fussy. Yesterday he was like a different baby! He was actually full after nursing on one side for 15-20 minutes and not gagging and choking while he ate. My question is how long to I keep doing this? Forever? Or will my body regulate?
