Swollen ankles already??

My ankles were obscenely swollen for the whole last month of my pregnancy with DS. Today I was at a training all day and spent most of the day sitting, which I don't usually do much of during the day. When I got home and changed out of my jeans, I noticed my left ankle felt numb. I looked down and realized my ankles (especially my left one) were HUGE! Like, I couldn't even see my left ankle bone. No definition whatsoever. It was a straight line from my foot to my calf. I am so disturbed by this. Anyone else having this problem already?

  • Just this week I'm noticing puffy feet and ankles! Nothing obscene but definitely puffy. Sitting on the couch with them propped up on pillows right now!

  • Within the last week I had to travel by car for 12 hours. About half way through the trip I started noticing my feet were swelling a little bit. I also thought it seemed a little early for that!

  • I noticed mine were swollen this week. We had highs in the upper 80's with high humidity. After my daily walk out in the sun I noticed I had fat ankles afterwards. Scary it's happening already.

  • Mine are getting puffy. This weekend I am ordering compression hose to help relieve my vericose veins and swelling. But I am also on my feet walking for 10 hours a day at work.
  • Not my ankles but my feet and hands are. My feet get so bad it painful to walk.

  • I don't get our bodies right now. Like walking and some exercise is good, but why would my ankles swell up after? Why should I eat more if I'm just gonna get heartburn? Does anyone get what I mean
Haha, yeah. Today after lunch I had terrible heartburn, then a couple hours later when I started to get hungry again, the heartburn came back. I was thinking, "WTF, body? I get heartburn if I eat and also if I don't eat?"

  • I traveled about 6ish hours two weeks ago and noticed my ankles were looking pretty thick then when I tried to put my flip flops back on to get out they were almost too tight!
  • Today was the first day I've had any noticeable swelling. It has been in the 90s here all week and I've been on my feet a bunch. It seems like I stayed swollen from about the end of the second tri on with my daughter. So this is definitely sooner.

  • I was starting to wonder if I was the only one and it way too early for this! My hands and feet have been puffy lately. And boy, do my feet hurt at the end of the day! Like I've been up walking for 12 hours straight.....and I haven't!

  • Acupuncture will get rid if edema. One treatment is all it takes. Don't suffer! Fat ankles feel like hell.

  • I am. It is especially bad when I sit all day. I flew yesterday after sitting in meetings all day and when I got home, they were awful! I am trying to keep them elevated whenever I can and drink a lot of water.
  • Mine started swelling at 20 weeks with DS. Luckily, they haven't acted up yet but I KNOW it's coming.
  • Try sitting on your feet- get on all fours, with knees apart, then put your toes together, and then sit back on your feet. We do this in Yoga- it constricts the blood flow and supposedly helps with swelling. I personally haven't had any yet, but our teacher swears by it.
  • @moroccojade‌ do you have to wait until it gets really bad before you go for an acupuncture treatment or can be be done as a preventative measure?

I am going to Hawaii in a few months and I just know the flight is going to make my feet swell. Plus it's going to warm there. My thoughts are: conpression socks + acupuncture = more fun on my holiday :)

You don't have to wait till it is terrible..   but I think you will have to wait till you have some swelling so they know how to best treat it (and any other symptoms you want to get rid of.)

I saw my TCM dr a  few weeks ago and the last thing she said to me was this:  "Come in at 34 weeks to start getting ready for labour....   Or earlier if your ankles get fat!"   :P

The good news for you?  I really don't think you will need compression socks.  My one treatment in May 2007 got rid of my horrible pregnancy edema for good.  I delivered in the heat of August with bony ankles.  No socks, elevation or ice needed.
