Trouble TTC

1st time taking Clomid.....question!!

This is my first round taking Clomid. I am currently on cycle day 13. My OB/GYN said to have sex on cycle days 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18. My husband and I accomplished the task on day 10; however, he was sick yesterday (day 12) so we were unable to have sex. Do you think it's okay that we skipped that day and there's still a chance that I could get pregnant? Or should we risk it (Dr. said not every day) and do it today and tomorrow which is day 14?

Re: 1st time taking Clomid.....question!!

  • Perhaps...not have sex at all because for all you know there are 6 mature follicles developing? (assuming you're not getting monitored)

  • Ugh...way too often OB's prescribe clomid and give ridiculous advice! I would have been mortified if my RE had given me a map of when to have sex. I also took all the pamphlets from my RE providing information on clomid while we were considering whether we wanted to take such a big step (we had been TTC for two years). It was four months later when we did an ultrasound while I was suppose to be ovulating and clearly learned we weren't that we decided to go on it. My biggest concern after doing all the research was all the studies that have proven if you don't take clomid just right and because of specific needs it can cause you to become infertile. Have that OB refer you to a RE and DO NOT take clomid until you have had all your blood work, your husband sperm analysis and a ultrasound done to confirm you really need clomid!

  • I've done two cycles of Clomid unmonitored - both BFN, but after talking with these ladies (I joined the Bump AFTER taking the second round of pills) I will be stopping the Clomid and asking my OB for a referral to an RE. I love my OB but when I heard about the possibility of high order multiples that was scary! DH and I can't handle all that at once!!! So I suggest the same as @NariaDreaming, ask for a referral and don't take another round of Clomid until you see and RE and get the proper monitoring.

As far as sex this month, it's probably safe to do the deed two days in a row, as long as you are OK with the possibility of multiples. Like I said, I've done two rounds unmonitored and nadda...

  • Oh please get monitored by an RE. Clomid is not something you do lightly - you need to be monitored.
