November 2014 Moms

A/S today and baby is fine

But they found a large cyst on my right ovary.  Apparently it's measuring 10 cm.  That's the size of a fucking softball.  It was so large they couldn't see any of my ovary on that side.

The radiologist didn't seem too concerned and said that my OB will probably just monitor me, but fuck!  I'm freaking the fuck out.  I had a small cyst burst on my left side over 10 years ago and that hurt like hell.  I can only image what this would feel like.

A friend of mine is an ultrasound tech and she's told me in the past that they're drilled to look as unemotional a possible.  So, I knew that something was up when the tech quite literally leaned back in her chair, as though she was backing away from something.

But, our little bean is fine, so we're grateful for that.  I guess he/she was a wiggly little guy.  They had a hard time getting measurements cause he/she was moving around so much.  :)

  • Ouch. I used to get cysts and yeah that shit does hurt. Never had one that big though. I'm sure it will be ok. Congrats on a happy healthy baby though : )

  • Hooray for a healthy baby! I had a cyst on my ovary on my fist u/s and it was gone by the next one. Hopefully that is why they said you would just be monitored.

  • I'm sorry, I don't have any experience with cysts but I just wanted to say that I hope it stays put until they can remove it so it doesn't cause you any pain. Glad baby is doing well.

    Thanks for the reassurance.

Google has not been my friend today. I've read everything from benign fluid sacs to cancerous cells to weird cysts with hair and teeth. And then for treatment everything from a wait and see approach to surgery while pregnant to a complete hysterectomy after delivery. I knew better than to google but I did it anyway.

I have an OB appointment on Wednesday so hopefully I'll get more info then. The radiologist was shy to give me any more than general info for fear of giving me misinformation. SO keeps telling me that if it was something needing immediate attention they would have done more testing then and there.
  • I had one at my first appt 10cm - at the last u/s it was down to 5 so it looks like its going away - no pain either - my dr said its pretty common

Congrats on the healthy baby! Fingers crossed the cyst will shrink and you won't need any intervention.
  • I have a 7cm cyst on my right ovary. I had one removed when preggo with DD. They just monitored it and removed it when DD was born because she ended up being a C-section. Found out at 13 weeks I have another one. The same will happen this time. Good luck with everything. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • As long as it is being closely monitored, you should be fine. I had a REALLY large one after IVF #2. The Dr. put me on pelvic rest and lifting restriction until it resolved to avoid ovary torsion. Ask your doctor.
