Sewing inserts.

I am loving the applecheeks bamboo insets that y'all recommend. But they are expensive, and I would like to replace all my microfiber. I plan to buy yardage and make my own. I am still deciding between obv and obf. Which do you recommend? But the big thing is that I won't have a serger, just a regular sewing machine. Would it work to do a criss-cross zig zag stitch? With maybe a straight stitch though the middle? Also can I use a regular needle, or do I need to find ball needles? Lastly how important is a walking foot? Thanks, I feel like I sew enough that I should know these thing, but I've never worked with this kind of materal.

Either of those fabrics would be good. Nothing compares to OBV-it's so squishy soft. And I don't have a serger either. I just did a basic zig zag stitch and it worked perfectly...no walking foot

Do you recommend pre washing the fabric? I figured this would help make sure everything stays about the same size wash after wash. I'm thinking 3 layers. And maybe a two layer with hemp in the middle for over night.

I would definitely wash the fabric. It helps so they don't get weird shapes during true wash and also keeps crap from getting inside your seeing machine. It's easiest to cut big squares and fold them over on themselves into rectangles and see the edges. Seeing multiple cut layers will be a PITA. I'm going to try to link an awesome tutorial that ITK posted last year. I'm mobile and can't search though. Hold on
