Appt question..

I had an appt on Tuesday. I finally had my a/s at 22 weeks. So my next appt I will be 26 weeks and no mention of a glucose test. I switched dr's this pregnancy and everything seems to be running behind. Part of me thinks I shouldn't worry about it and just let the Dr do her job, and the other part of me thinks she's a little scatterbrained and may have forgotten. Would you call in or just leave it alone until they mention? Thanks ladies :)

Re: Appt question..

  • You can call in, but I think (at least my doctor said) there's a range. 26-28, so maybe at that appointment, she will send you for the test that day or the next day or even in the next few weeks.

If you're worried about it and want to get it out of the way that day, call and talk to someone, but I think you have a little wiggle room if you just wanted to mention it at that appointment.

I'm drinking the whatever, going to the appointment, then doing the test. I guess you need to drink the stuff an hour before. So that works out well for me.

  • I am doing mine next week at 26w1d.  I have to go there and they will test my fasting level and then make me drink the stuff.  The only good thing is that I am doing that in the lab at 7:30 am and then have my appointment with the dr. at 9 so I will be done with it pretty early.

I asked her several times because it was one of those things I have been anxious about.

  • Yeah, I may just see what she says at the next appt. I just thought it was strange that she didn't mention it all.

My MFM didn't mention it at my 20w appointment and he is the least scatterbrained person I have ever encountered in my life.  He remembers everything, including if he's missing even one piece of your medical history, and will haunt you until he receives it.  He usually discusses tests with me the day that he orders them, so, he will mention the glucose test when he's writing the scrip for it, which I expect will happen at my 28w appointment, or he will give me the scrip for it at 24w and request I have it done in 2-3 weeks.

  • Soon you will be going every two weeks. So maybe the appointment after that one will have it scheduled.
  • I just had my 24 week appt. They told me I had from now until my 28th week to do the test. I'd call and find out where to schedule an appt. It's a fasting test so you'll want to get the earliest appt you can.

Yours is fasting? They told me not to fast. Interesting.

Yep, I thought the fasting one happened if you failed the 1 hour test
With my 2 boys, I had to fast for the 1 hour tests. Which I ended up failing and then had to fast yet again for the 3 hour test. I think I'm going to fast for like 2 days to avoid doing the 3 hour test this time lol.

OP, I'd say she'll tell you to have it done at your next appointment and will tell you the latest to have it done. If not, I'd definitely ask her then.

I'd wait, mine has to be done 27-28 weeks. It's not a lab test you have to schedule, atleast at mine anyway. I'm doing mine based on how many carbs I can limit myself to the day before. :)

ETA: Mine is not fasting the just told me to eat a no carb breakfast. viturally impossible for this girl. However, from what I can remember the 3 hr test is a fasting.

I didn't fail any of the tests. The NP, who was not my OB since he was on vacation, told me that I needed to not eat for 8 hours and that the test would take 2 hours with no food and a glass of sugar water halfway through.

FTM here, so I have no idea. I just do what they tell me.

I'm not doing it until 28 weeks. Last time I did not fast. I'm pretty sure I just drank the drink waited like 30 min and that was it. I may be off regarding the time I waited but I definitely did not fast.

ETA - I enjoyed the drink as I was drinking it, but I did feel sick afterwards. Just thought I would throw that in there for those of you planning to go to work after.

I was told at my 20 week appointment that it would be scheduled at my 24 week appointment which means I probably wont have it until around 28 weeks. Yours will probably be scheduled at your next appointment.

  • My MW said the glucose test should be done between 24 and 28 weeks. I'm seeing her next week at 24 weeks and she's giving me the requisition then. You should be fine if you get the requisition at your 26 week appointment.

  • I haven't taken the 1 hour yet so this will be my 1 hour and they are making me fast for 12 hours including water.  Makes me think my OB has a thing for tourturing pregnant ladies!
  • Same as everyone else...I asked at my last appt, and he told me that he would be looking to schedule it at the next appt which is going to be 26 weeks for me. So I think you are okay.

  • It is typically around 28 weeks unless you need to be tested earlier for some reason. Most drs don't make you fast but be careful on anything with sugar like fruit, juice, coffee, gum and mints. Also @ Spurp13 are you doing the test at your dr office? I have always been told not to drive after I drink the stuff because some people get light headed, blurry vision or even pass out. Just a heads up in case they won't let you leave once you drink it.

No one told me to fast either, and my test is in the afternoon, so, there's kinda no way I could make it that far anyway.

It's at the hospital where the doctor is, but my husband picks me up and takes me to appointments. So, we'll drive to the hospital, drink the stuff, walk around the corner to my appointment, then walk back for the test, then go back to work.

  • I saw my OB at 22wks and some change and during that appt she said I could go anytime between 24 and 28 wks for the 1hr test. No dating required, but she did recommend reading a high protein, low carb diet for 2-3 days before testing as it would give the most accurate results and help avoid a false positive (that would require me too then take the 3 test unnecessarily). She made it seem like the 3hr test is pretty unpleasant. She also recommended bringing a granola bar or crackers to eat immediately after, since the "glucola" can leave you feeling kinda sick to your stomach.
