1 year shots

Well, I finally got Emmett in for his 1 year well baby visit (a month late, MOTY award!). He had his shots early in the morning and seemed fine all day.

Then, all of a sudden at dinner time he started crying uncontrollably and wouldn't stop unless I held him in the Ergo. I finally gave him some Motrin and he calmed down and went to bed just fine.

Anyways, he spent most of the night moaning and thrashing around in his sleep. He's now been moaning for about 30 minutes straight this morning. I've been watching him on the monitor, and he's not awake, just moaning.

Did any of your LOs act the same way? If so, how log is it last? I hate seeing him in pain!

My DD didn't have that type of reaction. But about 8days after she received her shots she developed a fever that was at its highest 103.4. She bounced back and forth with fever spikes for the entire week. At the point her fever got so high so fast we had to take her to the ER. She has since recovered, but I just thought you should know there could be more coming... hope he feels better soon!

Advice - give half Motrin half Tylenol... that is what our pedi suggested.

    *edit for typo*

  • Their reaction came almost 2 weeks later. Fevers, rashes, and injection site reaction.

Pedi said it was normal. Fever lasted 5 days. Rashes a couple weeks.

  • Dd started acting that way 2-3 days afterwards but she also had her molars coming in. She had a fever and was super fussy and I felt so bad for her. It lasted for about four days and then she started getting back to normal.

  • Oh no! All of your experiences sound pretty bad. He just woke up and has been scream crying and has a fever. This is terrible. I don't remember him being like this after any other shots :-(

Remember this is probably his first time getting a live virus shot, so as my doctor told us, reactions up to this point could vary. Hope he starts feeling better!!

Interesting! Do you remember which one is a live virus?

DD received MMRV - measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox). They told me they are diluted but still live.
  • LO just got hers about 2 hours ago, so my fingers are crossed.

My LO had a fever of 102 when she woke up the morning after her shots.  She was fussy that day but the next day her fever was gone and she was back to normal.  However, I have noticed random weird skin blotches in the past few days.  Now I'm wondering if that's related to her shots given what others have said.  Her shots were exactly 2 weeks ago.
