Laundry

So I feel like laundry is a never ending battle I fight so as I wait to switch loads again I thought I'd ask...

How many loads do you do a week??

I do 6-10 in a normal week

What detergent do you use?

I make my own that I love

Do you use fabric softener or dryer sheets??

I use vinager as liquid softener and dryer sheets on a few things mostly jeans towels and sheets

Re: Laundry

  • I'd say only 4 loads/week. I use Purex free and clear detergent. I don't use dryer sheets or fabric softener.

  • I do 4-6 loads per week. There are just the three of us and two dogs (I do their stuff every couple weeks ). I use Tide Free. I use liquid fabric softener and a dryer sheet on everything except DS's laundry.

I have never heard of using vinegar. How much? I am becoming more natural in the things I use so I would love to be able to replace some of my laundry products.
  • 2-3 loads. I use Seventh Generation detergent and sometimes vinegar for softener but not usually. Every now and then I bleach the towels. Love drying things on the line when I can. I really want to try washing with soap nuts but haven't bought them yet.

We use cloth diapers so I wash those about every 2-3 days. I use Tide Original Powder and no dryer sheets. For clothes, I hate folding laundry so I tend to bang it out in 5 loads in one afternoon of hell when I really have nothing else to wear lol. For that I use Sunlight powder and again, no dryer sheets. The residue they leave behind can be rough to get off of her diapers if it builds up over time so we just avoid them. I don't miss them. Edit: because typing on DHs tablet is annoying

I probably do 5-7 loads a week give or take. Mine, DHs, DSs, DH's uniforms and then sheets, towels, rags and diapers from time to time (I CD but not regularly so that changes.) I use arm and hammer free and clear detergent. I tried making my own and didn't care for it.

I almost never use softener but when I do I use vinegar in downy balls. @marcyxc1, I don't really know how much vinegar I use. Probably half a downy ball's worth. More if it's a stinky load (Like DHs work uniforms)
I used to save it all for the weekends and I hated it. Our laundry is in the basement and I recently put hampers down there and now I bring dirty clothes down and sort every day or so. It makes it a lot easier to throw a load in here or there when I have time since everything is ready to go. Now I get behind on putting it away, but at least not behind on doing it.

Another laundry question: How do you sort? I was everything on cold except diapers, sheets/towels/rags and uniforms, so I don't sort by color (except the very occasional load of whites). I sort by mine, DS, DH so it's easier to put away. Anyone else or am I bad laundry doer?
I do lights, darks, jeans/towels, DS, sheets, dog. The first three are both mine and DH's.

  • For us, sorting varies depending on load size. Usually I do DD, DH, me, towels, uniforms. Or if the loads are bigger; socks/underwear/towels, uniforms, sweaters/jeans, shirts. I tend to sort by fabric type, not color. Like I don't put my shirts in with towels because I find the agitation is too much and it twists the fabric making them fit odd (kwim?) but there's no problem with sturdier fabrics like our work clothes (scrubs/his army uniform) or jeans. I only sort color for the first wash if I'm worried about it bleeding.

  • My household does about 6 loads a week and I do about 2-3 loads, personally. DS and DH do their own laundry! I use Tide/ Tide Free/ All. I don't use fabric softner but I do use dryer sheets.

DH sorts his clothes between colored and whites, because he has a bunch of whites. I don't sort at all because most of my clothes are colored. Same with DS's laundry and same with DD's laundry.

  • Probably 5-6 loads a week. We use All Free & Clear detergent and Bounce Free dryer sheets. I have skin sensitivity issues with fragrances sometimes, and laundry products have been a common trigger in the past for me. We sort: darks (cold water), reds/pinks/purples/oranges (even when they're not new, I've had some bleed in the past so I do them separately from other colors), lights/whites, towels and sheets.

  • I sort my two lo's, dark, colors and whites all on cold but I think the colors stay brighter longer this way.

I do about 4 loads a week. I use All free and clear, no fabric softener. I have never heard of using vinegar as a fabric softener, I may have to try that.

  • We do about 4 loads a week. I do a load of darks, towels, LO's stuff and anything of mine that needs to be washed on delicate and the bedding. I wash everything on cold except the towels.

I also make my own detergent. I love it and it is super cheap! Which I love even more. I have never heard of vinegar as softener. I think I will have to try that.
  • I try to do a load a day to keep up with it but usually skip a day each week because I HATE laundry. Not so much the getting it in the washer and dryer part, just the folding, hanging and putting it all away. I use Tide free and clear detergent and buy 2 separate liquid softners. Downy free and clear for DD and the kind with febreeze for DH and I's loads. I use dryer sheets as well on everything except DD's clothes.
