I have a PSA while we're on the subject of skin cancer:
My MIL has had several melanoma spots removed and last week she had two big ones removed from her lower legs/calf/ankle area. She wears capris all the time and gardens a lot. I'm only mentioning this because I often wear capris and flip flops and never put sunscreen on my exposed legs because my legs never really burn or tan and I figured with capris not that much skin is showing down there. I almost always put sunscreen on my face/arms. Now it has me thinking twice about my legs when I'm in capris.
Thanks for all the input. I hadn't thought about the lamps hurting the baby's eyes. That alone is enough to sway my decision. Nothing else I recall was said about what it can do to harm a baby. I stated in my original post I was aware of the dangers to me personally. But regardless thanks for replies!
I haven't used tanning beds for 5 years. I got my skin checked after my boss found out she had skin cancer. (From tanning). And I had 4 spots removed. Even one on my boob! I never even went tanning that much. Couple times a week in the winter months. I wouldn't do it.
As PP said, the other harm it can do other than the eyes is over heating your baby. That can be very dangerous, hence why pregnant women are suppose to avoid hot tubs, saunas, and overly hot baths.

Was surprised else shared this: https://abcnews.go.com/Health/deadly-melanoma-passes-mother-baby-rare-medical-mystery/story?id=15810411 Briana Cox had malignant skin cancer removed in 2006... had a child, had a 2nd child, 2 months later they found advanced cancer. And then, 4 months later, her 2nd child developed bumps on her forehead and was diagnosed with the same Stage 4 as mom. The skin cancer cells crossed the placenta during the pregnancy... I'm done tanning, it's safe to say!
Most of the "high quality" and best known brands of sunscreen have cancer causing chemicals in it, as well as (at least) safeway brand aloe vera gel. I recommend using sunscreen of course, but finding one with out the mass amount of chemicals in it. A good share of well known brands of lotions, sunscreen, make up, body wash, ect actually has cancer causing agents in them and most of them are chemicals stews of course including spray tans and self tanners and such. My best recomendation other of course than staying out of tanning beds is to find natural products, esp during pregnancy, that have less chemicals and are made out of natural or organic ingredients just for safety. Its likely that its not only the sun doing damage if out in it too long, but its also the products we allow to absorb into our skin Just to put in my bit of health concern

You getting cancer may not effect the baby now but it sure as heck will when your kids are watching you suffer from cancer. You may not care about your health or life but I think it is irresponsible to engage in unnecessary risky behaviors when you have kids. It is short sighted in the extreme. Why tan, smoke or do anything else that is likely to make your life shorter? It would be pretty sad for your kids to grow up without a mom because you died from preventable cancer.
Ok, I have to whore knight. I'm sorry, I have to.
Please, please can we all stop bashing her for using tanning beds (while not pregnant)?
There is a ton of stuff that causes cancer. I'm sure you guys don't constantly bash your friends with kids that smoke, are overweight, drink frequently, use cellphones, aspartame etc. She clearly stated she understood the risks of tanning and wanted to know if it was safe while pregnant. She wasn't asking for a lecture on how dangerous it is and posts of people with cancer and shit.
Whore knight out.
Correction, you're being a white knight not a whore knight. Whore knights are a totally different animal and wouldn't take up for someone who asked a dumb ass question to begin with.
FWIW...I still think this is MUD.
