Being invited to more than 1 shower?

I just co-hosted a baby shower for a friend at work and received an invitation in the mail to another shower her sister is hosting for her.  I thought it was kind of strange that I got invited to another shower as we are friends at work but don't hang out after work.  Do I need to buy her another gift? What is etiquette in this situation?

No, you shouldn't have been invited to another shower for her. 

Do you plan on going?  If you do, I know I'd want to show up w/ at least a SMALL gift. 

But if I weren't friends w/ her outside of work and it I really didn't WANT to go, I probably wouldn't go and as such, I wouldn't give a gift.

You can politely decline. No gift is required, in a different situation I'd send a card, but since you're co-hosting the other shower I'd just rsvp no.

I kind of wonder if she prepared the guest list for her sister before she knew you were throwing her one at work.

A similar situation happened to me, except I was invited to a shower thrown by the MTB's sister as well as a workplace one where everyone was invited. I gave diapers at the workplace one. You're in the clear to decline--you don't have to give a reason either. If you did decide to go, a small gift would be in order.

a friend of mine had three showers. i was invited to two. one was a last minute shower, and i still felt obligated to bring something. i brought a book (no card, just signed inside) and a small puppet to go with the book.

Maybe she thinks you are better friends than you do, and she didn't want you to feel left out. Give her the benefit of the doubt here.

I had a coworker who I wasn't that close to invite me to FOUR showers. We only hung out outside of work once or twice, so I thought it was kind of strange.
