Pregnant after a Loss

MY L&D story from last night!

Hi all, let me preface this by saying I am fine, baby boy is fine, and he's still cooking for at least a few more days! For mobile bumpies, I am 36w4d.

All day yesterday, I felt weird. Shaky, lightheaded, and lots of Braxton Hicks. I also wasn't feeling him move a lot and even though he sounded great on my Doppler, I was getting worried. So, after much going back and forth in my head I decided to head into L&D around 4pm. DD came with me, until my hubs could get there, and luckily she was so good and the staff was amazing with her being there. I love our birthing center!!

SO, they get me hooked up and notice two things... #1 my heart rate was pretty high. And #2, I'm having pretty time able contractions. After the routine bloodwork and urine, they determine that both are fine. While I'm there, they make me drink a crap ton of water and rest and even then my contractions were 3-4 minutes apart. But, I was only dilated between a 1-2. They did an ultrasound to check baby's position because he was transverse on Monday and they didn't want me progressing into active labor with him transverse. Well, good news is that he is almost head down!! YAY!! He had made lots of progress and it was clear that he was making his way down in the right direction.

They basically concluded that all was fine, I was just beginning to dilate a little and have some contractions. So, they felt comfortable sending me on my way and waiting till next next OB visit on Monday!! I'm just curious how long he's going to hang out in there before making his enterance! I know that you can be a 1-2 for basically weeks (or longer!) and that doesn't mean I'll go into labor anytime soon. I was also kind of worried that they didn't want me to have a steroid shot, but they felt confident that if I was going into labor, that he would be perfectly healthy. Overall, I'm so glad I went just because it validated that I wasn't just making up stuff in my head, but that things were actually progressing. As far as his movement goes... he was fine once I got hooked up, of course. These babies can make you worry!!

So, that's my L&D experience last night. We'll see how long this little guy keeps cooking for!! I would like him to wait at least another week!!

    Glad that everything was ok :) You did the right move by going to the hospital. About being 1-2 cm, I was 1 with my son for the longest time. Also right now I am 2cm (week 33) and my doc doesn't seem too concerned :) You'll be glad to start a bit ahead once you reach 39 weeks :)  Take care!!

    Scary!  I've been having some tiny contractions here and there, but nothing like that!  It's reassuring to know he'd be fine to be born at this stage, but better to let him grown and get stronger for a bit longer.  So sorry for the scare.  I hope you are at home with your feet up!

    @Qfrump‌
    The scary part is they said nothing about resting or taking it easy! I figured they'd be like "no housework, no lifting, no sex, etc." But they were like "see ya soon!" Haha

    @voplo I was also at a 1-2 with my daughter for a long time before having her at 39 weeks. What's different this time is that I'm havig contractions too!

  • Glad you're both okay! You can hang out for a long time with limited dilation, but the fact that you were having contractions makes me think he's on his way in the next week or so. I sat at 2-3cm for 6 weeks before having DS, but my contractions weren't really starting until 36wks and I had DS at 38wks. Fingers crossed he stays put for another week or two, but he'll be just fine if he decides that he wants to meet his mom and dad sooner!

    So sorry for that scare!! But good to know that mama and baby are both doing ok. Hopefully he gets a little more cooking time, but if not, he'll be just fine! Mine was born at 36w 1d and she didn't need any NICU time. Definitely rest and drink lots of water, even if they didn't tell you to. Dr. Qfrump knows best! Haha.

    I think I would totally freak out if at this point I have contractions! I had some Braxton-hicks (for first time ever) and I almost go to the hospital :P
    I hope everything is better now and the baby cooks for longer. You are right there! I'll be meeting mine 2 weeks after you hopefully :)
