Cloth Diapering

Best NB CD

Currently, I have 32 size 1 Sunbabies and 8 BGs, but I don't know what size they are. Only that they aren't NB. We have sposies, because we did receive them as gifts. If I can find some NB CD before LO arrives, I'll be donating most of the sposies.

What are some of your favorite CD or places to look for NB sizes? I went to Target last night with DH, and I asked one of the ladies where the diaper covers were (I had seen some cute ones online that said they were also at the store). She gave me this blank stare. Had no idea what I was talking about. I couldn't even find the prefolds they supposedly had.

Also, does anyone know how big baby has to be to wear size 1? All of them are pockets. Extremely new to this. Baby is due 12 July, but the midwives think he may come within the next couple weeks.

BGs are one size so they don't usually fit for a little bit. The packages say that they fit starting at 8 pounds but it depends on baby's shape. They didn't start fitting my DD for a couple of months.

A lot of ladies here prefer prefolds/flats with covers for NBs. They are the easiest with that lovely newborn poop.

About where to shop, I do all of my CD shopping online. I have no brick and mortar stores near me anyway but I've found a few great online stores that I get my items quickly and at good prices. Where are you located? US? I'm sure that you could get some good site recommendations here if you are interested in shopping online.

If the BGs aren't NB size, then they're probably OS.

Have you tried looking online? Here are some popular sites to shop on:

    greenmountaindiapers.com
    nickisdiapers.com
    kellyscloset.com
    sweetbottomsbaby.com
    abbyslane.com

I don't have any experience with sunbabies. But I do know most NBs won't fit into size 1 dipes for at least a few weeks. Their little froggy legs are just too skinny to fill them out.

ETA: What works for one mama and her baby, isn't going to work for another. I would recommend trying out a few different types to see what you like best. For me personally, those first few weeks my favorites to use were fitteds with covers and fuzzibunz size xs.

Also, just to caution you, some women can sit at 4+ cm for weeks before giving birth and some can be 0cm and go into labor the next day. I know it's exciting to think your baby could come any day, but just take what your midwife says with a grain of salt.

  • I love Imgaine baby for nb www.nickisdiapers.com

I also loved my bumgenius nb dipes, though they didn't last long.  We were out of them by 4 weeks

Very favorite was nb work horse fitteds and assunta tiny covers.

  • I don't know anything about Sunbabies and whether they fit NBs or not.

Depending on budget, my ideal NB stash would mostly be some combination of flats, prefolds and fitteds (workhorses or kissaluvs) + covers. I might get some NB AIOs for fun but would probably have fewer than half a dozen of them.

I'm also a Green Mountain Diapers fan.
  • We used mostly prefolds and fitteds from Greenmountaindiapers.com. I also had a couple Little Joey and Simplex AIOs that I loved, but DS is a heavy wetter and outgrew the absorbancy pretty quickly.

  • If I had unlimited funds I think I'd get all workhorses + covers for the nb stage. They are super easy and keep the nb runny poo inside the diaper where it belongs.

I think this is the suggestion for least expensive option for the nb stage. No?

  • As for shopping at target, they generally only have cloth diapers online. Sometimes you will find gerber prefolds in store, but they aren't suitable for use as diapers, only burp cloths.
Babies r us sometimes has cloth in store, but not much. Probably gDiapers and possibly BGs.

Unless you have a dedicated CD store, or maybe a "natural parenting" store in your area, online is the best bet and PPs have give you some great suggestions.

  • My BGs fit right at 10 lbs. before then I used prefolds from green mtn diapers and assorted covers. Bummis and Thirsties were what I preferred. Your BG are one-size. They only come in OS and NB. So if they have the 3 rows of snaps to change the rise, they're def OS.
