Baby fever

DD has a 103 rectal fever, talked to the pedi and they said to bring her in tomorrow . She was there Friday for 9 month check and I told them about extreme fussiness. Super smelly poops which have since gone away. But last night was the sleep from hell and I knew she had a temp but didn't take it bc she was sleeping. Meanwhile it came back tonight so I called but now I'm a nervous wreck .

Re: Baby fever

  • Alternate ibruprohen and tylonel every 4 hrs if her temp doesn't go down and agree with minimal clothes. Keep hydrated as well. DD had a low grade temp last wk and I would put water in her bottle over night and very time I gave her meds, I also had her drink 2 oz of water with it. Hope she feels better!

  • Try a lukewarm bath too. Always helps bring temperatures down. And a cool wet cloth over her forehead - it's a relief for them too. Hope she feels better soon!
  • ^^^^^^ I did too.
    How is your LO today?

Ok so my oldest is the high fever kid.  when he gets a fever it spikes to the 103-104 range and he has been that way since he was 4 months old.  One night I tried the bath thing and BOY was that the wrong thing to do.  They used to tell you to do that but not anymore and the reason is this....they spike the high fever, you put them in a bath which reduces the fever and brings down the body temp, then soon after their body reacts and spikes higher as a reaction to the lower temp.  Remember they get a fever as a way for their body to fight a bug so when you cause their temp to go down with a bath they can react to it with a might higher spike.  I was told NOT to the the bath but that a damp wash cloth over the back of their neck and head would help.

I second the alternating of advil/tylenol 3-4 hours.

In my sons case, the fever usually goes away after 1-2 days.  (ps - it always spikes highest int he middle of the night)

Hope your LO is feeling better!
