For those of you ladies whose kids already had the one year bloodwork, how do they do it? Is it like the infant bloodwork where they just prick the foot to get some blood? Or do they actually go into a vein? How did your LO take it?
LO just got iron levels tested, and for that they did a finger prick and then used a capillary tube to collect enough blood while they massaged his finger.
For ours, they did a full draw from his arm. I held him, one tech held his arm still and another got the blood. He cried pretty hard, but stopped as soon as we were done. He was smiling and flirting as we left the office.
They attempted it from his arm. He did so well and was so brave but the nurse missed the vein and wouldn't try again (which I'm happy about but was irked because she was in there poking all around) I just don't want to have to do that to him again at 15m
Finger prick for the 1 year appointment for us. And thank God because he had to have blood drawn at the ER when he was a month old and it took 4 people SEVEN tries (elbows, feet, wrists) and I'm still not recovered from watching him go through that
