MFI- Sperm Analysis Help

Ok....so I am so confused so my RE looked at my DH's sperm results and he basically gave our IUIs about less than 2% chance of being successful. So today we get back from DH's first appoint with urologist and he stated the results were not that bad and he actually called my RE an "over-exaggerater." I really have no idea what I'm looking at, but I searched the internet for the sperm calculator and the site I found stated the results show low motility. Anyone have any experience?

I'm mobile, and the lines are a little off so it's kinda confusing to read... But I see there is 61 mil motile sperm post wash? (If I'm reading the columns correctly) That's very good.

What was your RE concerned about.. Count/motility/morph?

61 motile sperm is the pre-wash number. Also RE was concern about morph (3% with Kruger criteria, with 97% head defects) and motility (total was 44.53%; Total Progressive 32.85% ; rapid progressive (a) 5.11%; Sluggish progressive (b) 27.74%;  Non-progressive 11.68%.

I believe my RE would say that morphology is the limiting factor, as he said for us. 44% is not fabulous for motility, but not terrible, and the wash should improve the concentration of motile sperm while reducing the total number (and YH has plenty of total sperm for great IUI chances - 5 mil is the least worth trying, 10 mil is the least that makes financial sense to try, 20 mil is great chances, up to 50 increases chances slightly and anything over 50 million total motile sperm doesn't change the chances, from what I've read).

@BunnyBerry‌ thank you for that info...the urologist was very hopeful for IUIs which really got me excited. But I guess in my REs defense he has always stated that MFI was not his specialty. But if it's not then why give us such a horrible prognosis.

I am no expert, but his results don't look bad. I think you should be able to do an IUI with those! GL!

Hm, that's tough...I do wonder if our RE is being too generous when he says we have close to a healthy couple's chances of conceiving each month, if we do IUI. We have 2% morph. I'm wondering if it's a combination of factors that makes your RE give you those lower chances? Glad you were able to take care of the fibroid and endo though.

Those numbers are still better than ours. First was 0% morph before wash and Second was .5% morph before wash. The other numbers I can't give much input (I'm mobile so things not lining up). Our RE advised us not to waste money on IUI if we were oop. Wouldn't up our chances enough for the cost. Our numbers are dismal after wash.

What I understand is the more numbers that are normal and close to normal you up your chances for IUI and IVF success. That's what we were told Monday.

Honestly do what feels right for you. Every doctor is a little bit different.

We have never had our sperm washed, but with a count of 12 million per ml ( with a volume of 4.7 ml I think?) motility 60% and 2% morph our RE gave us a 15-20% chance of success with an iui. He did say that we would re-evaluate after we see the post wash numbers, but he said that as long as we had around 5 million total motile sperm post wash then iui was worth trying.

I kind of agree with the uro that your RE is exaggerating or maybe he really doesn't understand MFI at all.......

My RE was less than happy with my H's numbers but was willing to do IUI. However, when we met with the urologist, he was really hopeful and said IUI was a great option but that we should give trying naturally a try again as well. I was so confused because my RE told us the exact opposite. It turns out That our situation, my RE was right. IUI isn't super helpful in increasing the odds with MFI. It can help some but it wasn't successful for us. I think REs have more experience with what kind of numbers are typically better because they are the ones doing the IUIs and seeing the success and failure rates.

That being said, you numbers aren't terrible. The volume is a little low but that can vary as much as anything else. The motility is also low but the count was pretty good so that can help make up for the motility. The morphology isn't great but my RE doesn't even care about that and said it doesn't really matter. We are not doing IUI or IVF yet as my husband just had a VR.  His first VRSA was 6 million with under 10% for motility and morphology (not post wash).  The VR doctor and 2 docs at the clinic I will be using for OB stated its not good but still possible to get pregnant naturally with me tracking.  With that being said, Good Luck
