Any other CD mamas out there gardening this summer? How are your gardens doing?
We are zone 7a and I am just starting to harvest some yellow squash and zucchini. My sungold cherry tomatoes have been producing for about two weeks now and I even got my first small bell pepper yesterday.
What's your favorite garden veggie? Any good squash recipes out there? I've got a ton coming in!!
Bonus points for PIPs!
Re: NCDR: How does your garden grow?
My bok choy is a loss. It went to seed already because of the weird weather. My cucumber and cherry tomato and Roma tomato plants look good. I'm thinking I might get some in a few weeks. Not sure about the peppers, eggplant and brussel sprouts yet.
I just have a small garden. I do have rosemary, basil, and thyme in pots on my deck. I made some yummy pesto with my basil and some tarragon from my mom's garden.
I love growing as many tomatoes and cucumbers as I can. I make spaghetti sauce, salsa and tomato juice and cucumber onion salad all summer. I also grow one eggplant to make eggplant paremesan. No one else in my family likes it, so one plant is perfect for me.
I need to hoe it, but it has been raining all week. Tomorrow is supposed to be 77* so I'm hoping to get something done.
I have a good amount of radishes-but I had no idea that they're kind of spicy? I don't like them
We've got tons of mint growing and our rosemary and basil are doing pretty well. We cheat with tomatoes and get a starter plant from the farmer's market. They are still green, but definitely growing. I hope we can get some good ones this year. And our jalapenos are about ready to pick. The green peppers are looking good too. Should be able to harvest a couple small ones soon.
The strawberries were a bust, I think, and one of the bad t-storms we had broke our cucumber stalk
Oh, and our summer squash was starting to look great, but only ever got to be about 2-4 inches long before getting mushy and/or burnt looking. No idea what's going on there; too much sun, maybe?
If you do a lot of pruning ( snap off any branches with no flowers, but not more than 1/3 of the plant at a time) you will get many more flowers and tomatoes
