Milk Soy Protein Intolerance

Is or has anyone dealt with this? LO seems to be crying for large amount if time during the day (if she's awake theirs a 80% chance she's crying). She also gets really upset when she poops and has a had a slight amount of mucus in her stool.

When I brought this up to our pediatrician she suggested that it could be a Milk Soy Protein Intolerance and asked me to cut out all Milk and Soy from my diet for 2 weeks to see if she improves. She also suggested adding a probiotic and gas drops.

Im looking for any moms that have been through this and what advice you might have.

  • Yes, I went through this with my first son and it is really hard to cut out all dairy and soy but it can be done.

I used this website to help me start off. https://www.mspimama.com/

Also since there are so many hidden names for soy and diary you need to research and print these. At one point I had a list on the fridge and in my purse to help me when purchasing cooking supplies. https://www.godairyfree.org/dairy-free-grocery-shopping-guide/dairy-ingredient-list-2

Whole foods is a great place to shop and would be a good place to get started. They have cheese, chocolate, pizzas and much more that don't use dairy or soy.

https://www.foodallergy.org/allergens/milk-allergy    --> Read under "Avoid foods that contain milk or any of these ingredients" also read this under the soy section.

Hope this helps some. My son got over his allergy around 9 months.

  • My pediatrician told me to cut out dairy as well. My 8 year old is allergic to the protein in cows milk so it's easier for me to cut it out because I have dairy free options in my house already. My 8 year old had reflux and she gave me medicine for reflux for this baby too. My 3 year old also had it. So the doctor said it can be hereditary and said to cut out dairy as a precaution.
  • I had this issue with my DD. Spend some time reading up on it, and find a time you can go to the store yourself and spend a lot of time reading labels. Then you can start making a list of staples that are dairy and soy free. For me meals were fairly easy, but snacks were hard. I quickly found some go to snacks and then would just always get that.
Teddy grahms and icing are a great sweet tooth fix!
If you are cooking or baking, substitute rice milk for savory things and plain almond milk for sweet things

  • I'm a FTM and going through this with my LO. My ped told me it usually goes away by 2 months of life, and to start using dairy products a little at a time to see how she does with it.
  • Lactose intolerance is different than the MSPI. MSPI is when the baby has a reaction to the protein in milk and soy, lactose is the sugar in milk. Because of this you cannot just use lactose free milk, but have to go for complete milk alternatives.
The same goes for things like yogurt. They sell lactose free yogurt, but you will need to get coconut milk yogurt or almond milk yogurt if you wanted that.
