Summer maternity leave with twins

I'm only 2 weeks in and I can tell I'm going to go stir crazy. I know I'm in survival mode and it's going to be a big adjustment over the next few months. But I am looking for things to do to make me not go too crazy this summer. Right now the only things on my mind are walks around the neighborhood and trips to the mall.

I think I'm also feeling selfishly sad because summer is my favorite time of year and I'm going to be missing out on so much. (All for good reason of course!) And I don't want DS1 to miss out on anything either.

Re: Summer maternity leave with twins

  • Our girls are 6 wks, so a little older but we still do regular summer things. We've been to the pool, the beach (bought a big umbrella from amazon for shade for the girls), go to the park almost nightly with DS. The girls and I sat in the backyard the other day them under the umbrella, me reading a book. During the day when it's just the twins & I, we don't do much so no suggestions there. We go on walks, to the mall, target, etc. Even just for a drive is nice to get out. I'm not sure what sort if activities you could do with a NB.

  • I'll be going out on leave tomorrow and having our twins next week, I'm also a huge fan of summer and want DS to have a memorable one.  Knowing that I'm going to be stuck at home a lot we bought a ton of outdoor toys (pool, slip n' slide, sand and water table) and a pop up to help shade our patio.  I've looked up a ton of summer fun ideas online that DS can do at home in the yard and will slowly chip away at the list.  I'm also going to have my mom watch the twins once a week, once I'm recovered and take DS to do the fun summer things like trips to the zoo and water park.

  • I feel the same way. I've been off two weeks and feel like a complete bum. I hate sitting around doing nothing. I also feel bad that most of the time DS1 and 2 are stuck in the house because I can't stand the heat. It's going to be a long summer :(
  • One of the hardest transitions for me has been missing out on fun time with DS 1. He is 2.5 and constantly on the go. My twins were born at the beginning of April and so I missed the most beautiful time of the year in their early weeks. I keep telling myself that it will be just as beautiful next year and we can all be outside as a family to enjoy it. DS is doing weekly "field trips" with daycare and it broke my heart that I wasn't the one to take him to the zoo. But again, I know when I take him later this summer, fall or next spring that he will love it just as much and be older to discover new things with me. I am also going to enlist grandparents to watch the girls so I can have some special alone time with DS. As much as I love these little peanuts I miss DS being my whole world, it is a transition for all of us.
  • I know what you mean. I have a 2.5 year old and he is always on the go and wanting to do things while I'm stuck on the couch and inside from the heat :(
