Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie

Hey everyone, I've been signed up with the bump for awhile but only recently started looking into the forums. My husband and I decided to start trying for a baby a few months ago. I've been using the clear blue ovulation test strips for about 2 months and each month the tests indicated that I ovulated. However, I got the 21 day bloodwork test done and it indicates that I have not ovulated at all. My gyn would like me to start clomid, but it makes me nervous since one of the rare side effects could be infertility. Has anyone else had this issue with the pee tests vs. blood test for ovulation? Should I jump right into taking the clomid? Anyone have any suggestions of natural ways to induce ovulation? Thank you!

  • Hi and welcome! I think PPs explained everything that I would have said. I just wanted to add that I also had an OB who thought I should just try clomid without giving me any testing to see what was going on. It seems to be a story we hear of often on here. I did not go back to this dr and plan to switch when I am pregnant because I don't trust her anymore. I'm glad that you sought some advice before taking it.
If you have only been trying for a couple of months I would not worry at this point. You could try temping to confirm ovulation. Good luck!

  • Thank you everyone for your welcomes and advice! Very helpful...to clear up some questions you had...I am 28 and my husband is 33. We have been trying close to a year (we decided to start trying after our 1 year anniversary). I only started taking the clear blue ovulation tests about 2 months ago. I will be looking for a new doctor immediately.

I have been eating much healthier (lots of sweet potatoes), exercising, taking pre-natal vitamins and cut down drinking and stopped smoking. I have gotten pre-seed and will start charting my basal temperature, along with continuing the clear blue tests. I also heard that yoga and acupuncture can help with fertility, so I may start that too. I was a little alarmed when the doctor recommended clomid so soon, although I would LOVE to have twins, I'd rather exhaust all natural options first. I'm glad I posted! :)

All my friends who are moms of multiples have instilled a great fear in me of having twins. It's so much harder to have two babies the same age who equally need you than one baby. Plus multiple pregnancies are high-risk. Singletons are generally easier! ;)
