AW: Follow-up A/S Update!

Today is a good day and I wanted to share. Follow-up A/S went off without a hitch. The kidneys are now measuring about 3.5 and 3.6, so still on the higher side, but below 4 and the A/S tech said all should be normal and we shouldn't need to go back for another ultrasound. Very happy. We were only slightly over 4, but I was still worried. Baby is measuring at 1 lb, 10 oz - 63 percentile for growth and all is good. (Baby jumped up from 12 oz in just under 4 weeks - definitely doing some growing). I have my 24 week appt. with the doctor on Friday and feeling that will be a good and positive appt. now.  I still need to get ultrasound pictures scanned (my scanner sucks, so I keep putting it off) but I will soon and share. Thanks for all the support from folks when I first found out about the larger kidneys - helped me to try and not worry.

My work day is about to explode, so may not be on here much more today - but wanted to make sure I shared the good news.

  • Great news! I'm going through the kidney issue right now, too. But they didn't provide me with any measurements. It must mean if they're below 4(mm?) then its no cause for worry? My OB said our case was "mild" and didnt get measurements from Radiology.. hmm. Glad you got your good news! I'm here if you need to talk fetal kidneys. :)

Strange that they didn't provide measurements - but sure they would if you asked. What I was told is below 4 (think its mm but not sure) is normal - on my first scan they were measuring at like 4.4 or 4.5 but now at 3.5 and 3.6. What the tech told me was that if they are only very slightly above normal - they look on the next scan to see if they have decreased or are at least maintaining. It is if they get larger that they have more concerns and want to do more scans.  If your OB said mild -probably something similar to mine - where it was just ever so slightly over.  I know even if they stay larger it's not an immediate cause for big concern, but glad to see they got smaller. Thanks for the offer on talking fetal kidneys - may take you up on it if I get any different reports. And that offer goes both ways :).

Don't get discouraged! There is still time for them to correct themselves.

@MrsSinner402 - I agree with vrj0522 - don't get discouraged - I was told even if it takes a month or two often they do correct themselves - and I was also told that slightly over 4 is not a huge concern and that it could literally just be that their slightly bigger. And if they maintain at that level, don't go further up, I was told that's also a cause for reassurance. Hang in there. Sending lots of hugs and positive vibes your way.
