Misconceptions

I don't know why I keep thinking about this today but I was apparently really confused when I was younger. I used to think pregnancy was basically symptom free, and that it would be so awesome to have no period for 9 months. Now I realize how many other fabulous symptoms take the place of that little period...

I also thought when you got married your name automatically changed to your husbands, unless you didn't want it to. I got married over the weekend and changing your name
Is a lot of work!

Just funny how differently you see things when you are young and inexperienced. Anyone else have any examples of this?

I always laugh at myself when I drink a can of soda because when I was little I used to think it was soo big! And it's really not that much after all!

This is a weird one, but I used to think that in the winter that fish were frozen in place in the lakes, oceans, rivers etc. and they thawed out again and started swimming in the spring.

Also, I thought that people needed glasses because they got soap in their eyes.

Oh I have a good one! When I was little my dad used to tell me my eyes were brown because I was full of poop (I desperately wanted blue eyes). So I would sit on the toilet for hours, trying to get my blue eyes.

I have a lot, but I can only think of one right now. I used to think that if you ate watermelon seeds, a watermelon would grow inside of you.

My sister's and I used to think that too cuz that's what my dad used to tell us.. Also if we kept swallowing our gum we would have a giant gum ball in our stomachs...

One of my Best Friend's is half korean and when he was little he used to think the moon was Korea because he was told that when it was dark here it was light there...that made me love him that much more lol

My grandmother used to tell us that we had to eat the crust of our bread because it made your hair shiny.  She also told us that if we swallowed our gum that it would stay in our stomachs forever.

lol....my uncle used to tell me that if I ate the crust of my bread, I would be able to whistle.   I ate my bread crust.....but still couldn't whistle.  ha ha....

First of all I LOVE your pickle picture and also used to think that being pregnant was as awesome as not having a period for nine months.

I was a teenage vegetarian and never knew that French onion soup was made with beef stock. I ate a lot of that during those years. Idiot

I am adopted and was told at a very young age.
That being said I thought a group of ladies sat in a circle and each was holding a baby when music started you would pass the babies and when music stopped that was the one you got to keep.

My brother calls me hot potato ever since I told him I thought that.

My dad always told me to eat the crust of the bread because it made your hair curly.  What he didn't realize was that I didn't want my already curly hair to get curlier- still to this day I don't eat the crust.

Someone told me when I was young (probably 4 or 5 or 6ish) that eating crust would put hair on your chest, so I stopped that day and didn't start eating it again until I was an adult.

Yes, mannequins!  Ha..I should've googled it first.  My apologies.  

Edit:  I just googled manikins and those are the science version of basically the same thing..not sure why that spelling stuck in my head.

Whenever my mom said she was running "errands", I thought she said she was running "Erin's"- which is my name. I was very confused on why she never ran Andy's or Ally's- my sibling's names.

This one is not mine but my DH's. When he was younger he thought that on road signs it told him how many of those place exist (ex: that there were 324 of that town-not realizing they meant how far away you were) and he always wondered where the rest of them went when as you got closer there was only one left.

So this is kind of embarrassing because it stuck with me until I was waaaay too old to still believe it.  I'm from FL and we don't do big fluffy piles of leaves in the fall.  Our leave piles are hard and full of dirt and no fun.  Well, I always thought the fun, fluffy piles that you could run and jump into were a Hollywood invention and didn't exist in real life.  

Y'all, I was 18 before I saw a "real life" fluffy pile of leaves and learned better.  ">

When I was little I thought you automatically got a baby on your wedding day. The roof would open up in the church you got married at and a stork would come bring you a baby when you said I do. And then after that I thought sex was when you rubbed the guys thing on the girls thing lol and then later she would poop a baby out in the toilet. I thought all babies were born on the toilet. I also didnt know there was a hole in vaginas until I was like 11 and I started my period.

Used to be TERRIFIED of an unwanted pregnancy & thought it was really easy to get pregnant. Just have sex and it's all it took. $30K later in medical treatments I now know it's not always the case!

When I was little my dad told me I had freckles from standing behind the screen door when it was sunny out. At the time I didn't like them so I avoided all screen doors whenever possible. Meanie!

When we went on long car trips my mother said that if my siblings and I went to sleep she would put the wings out so we could get there faster. She also said if we fake-slept she would know and wouldn't do it. My mother is a genius because this worked for a long time.

Oh, yes. Do I know this one or what? I think back on all those "Oops" birth control moments DH and I had in the early days and the few "Oh my god my period is late!" POAS and desperately wishing it came up negative moments... followed by years of the exact opposite and about $25,000 in fertility treatments.

When I was three, my aunt was pregnant. I was scared to death the whole time because I thought the doctors would have to cut her head off to get the baby out. I figured they'd sew it back on, but it was still really scary.

When my sisters and I were little my grandfather had a deer head hanging on the wall in the living room and there was a coat closet on the other side of the wall. He use to tell us that the rest of the deer was in the back of the closet behind all the coats. My sisters and I refused to go in the closet for years!

Yes! I thought this too!

I also thought that whichever way you were facing, that was north.

And when you're driving on the freeway, the cars that are in front of you are going faster than you are, and the cars behind you are going slower.

I used to think that sauerkraut was a type of fish.  I've never really liked fish, so I wouldn't try it until I was embarrassingly too old to still think that.  I still don't like it though.  My mom used to tell my sister and I that all the nutrients in the bread were in the crust so that we would eat it.  I believed this for a long time, but still tried to get out of eating my crust.

Not gonna lie when I was younger and you had to take those wonderful sex ed classes in school.  They really made it seem like you released an egg and you could get pregnant at any time until you had a period.  Plus I also thought that the egg always attached itself to the uterus and if wasn't fertilized then it got flushed out with your period.  It amazed me when I had friends who started getting pregnant and when I started trying that nope you have  roughly a 24 hour window when that egg is released to make a baby.

I have a confession about this! I walked home after school one day when I was no more than 7 or 8 years old and stepped on every crack I could find. I must've been angry about something but I don't remember what. I do remember that when I got home my mom was on the couch with a big blue boot. She had fallen down the steps and broke her foot. So, "I'm not superstitious, but why take a chance" has been followed :P

I have a good one! When my sister was in 3rd grade my brothers friend got pantsed and Laura saw his penis. She freaked out thinking she was going to have a baby. My brother and his friend then gave her the sex talk.
