I can relate to many of the issues discussed in these two articles. Fortunately I was able to get help early on and responded well to medicine. I hope the stigma and shame doesn't prevent people from receiving the help they need.

I was very fortunate that my mother helped me to recognize the signs of PPD/PPA very early on after the birth of DS1. I should have known better, given my history of depression, but hindsight is 20/20. Medication helped me immensely, and I was much better prepared before I gave birth to my twins. I still take medication now that they are 13 months and it makes a huge difference for me. I hope that more articles like this will promote a healthier public attitude and awareness, so that more mothers can get the help that they truly need.
