Doppler Readings

Idk how to word this to not make it sound ridiculous...but here it is:

I've had a home Doppler since I was about 12 weeks. I didn't find anything until about 15/16 weeks (gots a little fluff on meh ;-) ) & at the 15/16 weeks point it was very clear what was an artery and what was a heart beat. The heartbeat was very fast and a clear beat.

CURRENTLY, I'm 19w3d & everything sounds CRAZY in there! I'm always nervous that I'm listening to the wrong thing (artery, placenta, etc) & mistaking it for the heart. When I listen to it now it sounds like a "staticy" version of a horse galloping and when I try to listen really close, it's usually interrupted by some weird "bloop" (which I assume/hope is the baby moving and punching my Doppler lol)

SO...with all of that information..does that sound correct? My meter readings are usually all over the place but when I get a good loud beat it ranges from 133-144. I have a Sonoline B & I feel like their kind of unreliable but I guess ya get what you pay for.

Re: Doppler Readings

  • I wouldn't go by the beat reading, mine wouldn't go past 130 last night and HB is usually between 140-148.  I've seen several posts about the readings being off.  But yes mine also sounds like a horse galloping.

  • I'm only 16 weeks, but I've always been able to tell a clear difference between the heartbeats (I have twins) and the other stuff. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the number on the doppler. Babies move and it's hardly accurate.

  • That's baby moving. And the sonoline b is the most recommended at home doppler.

  • I get that too now...lots of noises. As far as the HB you could always count the beats for 15 seconds yourself and multiply it by 4 to get a more accurate rate.
