How long did you stay on progesterone?!

Hi Ladies! At my last US, my RE gave me the option to switch from PIO injections to the crinone gel. I held off because I had literally just called and had my PIO refilled.  I've been on PIO since 5/6.  AND NOW MY ASS CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE. I'm so bruised and I'm bleeding everytime DH pulls the needle out. It's just gotten to the point where I dread it and literally get nauseous thinking about it. I'm already sick enough with this morning sickness I'm starting to experience off and on. So I want to take them up on the offer to switch.

The only downfall is, the PIO was fully covered by my insurace, $0 co-pay.

The gel insert has like a $80-$90 dollar copay(for a 15 day supply)! 

 WTH?! How is an injectible free and the insert not?! So anyway, that's been the only thing I'm debating on, is if I have to refill this 2-3 more times, and spend another couple hundred dollars, or just tough it out and stay on the PIO since it's free. I think knowing how long I'll need to continue is key here. We've alerady spent so much I just want the money bleeding to stop.  I'm 8 weeks 2 days so I know I still probably will be on progesterone for at least another 3-4 weeks?? Grant it when I talked to my RE, I didnt even think to ask this last week, I was comunicating via email with his assistant this morning about switching.

 

Curious how long everyone was on the shot or the insert until they finally were given the ok to stop.

I stayed on PIO until 10 weeks.  I was really nervous about coming off that early.  I would stick with the PIO I know it sucks but at least it is not messy like the gel.  Good luck and I hope you can come off soon!

I was on PIO until just shy of 10 weeks with DS.  For this LO, I was on crinone until I gradually weaned off around 11/12 weeks.  I would ask your doctor when you'll be on progesterone until.  If it's another week or 2, I'd stick with PIO.  But I also hated Crinone, so that's just my opinion.

I was on progesterone suppositories and was on till 11 weeks first pregnancy, this pregnancy I've been told to stay on until 12 weeks.

I was on PIO until 10 weeks. Now I'm back on suppositories because of a shortening cervix- I'll continue those until the end of my pregnancy.

The RE was going to "let me" switch from PIO to the suppository at like 8 weeks and I was like, "Nu-hu. I will take a shot to my ass over dealing with a sticky mess in my vadge!" So I stayed on PIO until 10 weeks. 

(But I wasn't having any problems with the PIO -- no soreness or anything.)

I was on suppositories until 12 weeks. I started tapering at 11 weeks.

My last PIO shot was last night at 10w,0d. I am also on Endometrin, but tapering off it this week.

I was on gross endometrin till 12 weeks 3 times a day and the. Had to use crinone from week 21 to week 34 for my cervix shortening:(

I stopped at 11 weeks. I didn't have any issues with PIO but was still happy to stop. Sorry crinone is so expensive for you!

I was on PIO until 10 weeks. I was nervous to come off, too, and I was bruised and bleeding and could hardly sit, but I had had lowish progesterone at the first beta, so there was no way I was going off of it willingly. I hope your butt feels better soon!

Took my last dose of crinone last night, RE told me I could stop at 10 weeks That's today!!! Very excited to no longer have to dig clumps of gel out of my vag, yuck!!

I was only on PIO during 2ww, then switched to the prometrium suppositories and stop them at 10w 0 days.

I am on PIO, Estradiol and baby Aspirin until 11 weeks. I do get to drop one PIO injection at 10 weeks. For my first pregnancy, I was on prog suppositories until 12 weeks.

Still on endometrin at 10w2d and was told I'll be on it until 13weeks.

My RE had me on Crinone until 11w4d then I quit cold turkey.  It wasn't that bad minus the nasty discharge but I remember it being expensive.  My insurance didn't cover it at all so we were OOP.  I prefer Crinone to injects as your story makes me hurt for you!

12 weeks.  My OB switched me to an oral progesterone that was covered by my insurance

Progesterone suppositories until 10 weeks, stopped cold turkey (no tapering).
